The bad: Like so many others have stated the base is not easy to attach and a little flimsy. It takes awhile to get your settings set up, but the end results are worth it. you really have to spend some time getting your color alignment right. this makes a difference at higher resolutions also. I personally find the little birds in the corner, the tag in the other corner and the ViewSonic nameplate a bit distracting, so I had them airbrushed to match the case.
OVERALL: Great bang for the buck. This is a great monitor for a home user that spends some time in Photoshop, does home movie editing, and a gaming. Just a wonderful all around monitor.
Awesome Monitor
This monitor is fantastic.
The bad: One other reviewer mentioned a blurry section southwest of centre. This is true, I also have this, however as soon as I raised the monitor to 75Hz it disappeared (or became to slight for me to notice). Also, the settings do require a bit of fine tuning, I find that the shape of the screen tends to change VERY slightly over time and has to be readjusted once a fortnight or so. Third, the base, as others have mentioned, is hard to attach. My simple solution to this is to simply rest the monitor on the base without clipping it in. Unless you are continually lifting the monitor this works without problems. Finally, due to the aperture grille there are two very fine horizontal lines about 1/5 and 4/5 of the way up the screen. This makes no difference during games but I can see how it could get irritating while reading text.
The Good: Both text and games are great. I find the text crisp for both white on black and black on white which makes surfing the net (and writing this review) easier on the eyes. Games are also done well, the brightness controls are very convenient especially, allowing me to change from games to text easily. TV (which I have running through this comp.) also turns out well. The subtler shape controls/degauss/moire etc. are what is to be expected and allow easy management when one needs to make fine shape adjustments.
Overall: In my opinion, a great buy. Admittedly I am a first timer to 19" Flat Screens, but nevertheless I highly recommend this.
Great color, unclear text
The good: Flat panel. With adjustment, you can get the picture right out to the edges. The color is fantastic - especially in games. The ultra-bright button really makes games pop. The aperture grill bars are almost unnoticable.
The bad: The base doesn't mount into the unit. You have to struggle to get the monitor to sit on the base. After you ajust the H/V/Geometry settings they seem to get lost.
The ugly: Wow, the text just sucks. I have a largish mushy spot a little southwest of center. Text becomes a problem at any resolution above 1024x768. The refresh rates will go higher than 85Hz, but raising them does not solve anything.
I'm returning this as soon as the shop I bought it from has a G90 in stock - although I've heard bad things about those as well. When you are looking at monitors, make the salespeople turn off the crappy movie they always use to demo and pull up Outlook or this web page. Take a good close look at the text before choosing the monitor and opening your wallet.
