I'm real picky when it comes to buying electronic equipment, because there are so many pieces of junk out there you never can be sure what you're going to get. That's why for me I like to stick with well established name-brands, like Zenith, GE, and RCA; these companies were making televisions before I was born - and that's a long time!

I already had a nice RCA 27" television and so I wanted to find a complimentary DVD player to go with it. I found the RCA DRC310N Progressive-Scan Slot-Load DVD Player at my local Radio Shack (for around $80). I was impressed immediately with the front slot-loading, since this has no openings in the front of the machine (the slot is barely wider than a CD and is protected by a rubber sleeve) or a large drawer that opens. This means less chance of dust getting into the unit, which appealed to my anal-retentive nature.

Also, the picture quality is superb. Although the unit has only a couple display settings I found this only mildly disappointing since the picture is so good: sharp crisp letters on black and blue backgrounds with no "dancing" or distortion.

I love the remote control that comes with this unit. It has the ability to run TV/VCR/DVD and is capatible with most GE & RCA components, which I love because both my TV and VCR are RCA models as well.

For the price this is one sleek DVD player. I also recommend buying some quality audio and S-Video cables (or you can get the progressive scan cables if that's what you prefer).

I bought this DVD player about 2 weeks ago and I'am very satisfied with it. The picture quality is superb, especially in progressive scan mode. I would highly recommend this DVD player to anyone looking to get the most out of their HD capable T,V's!
