Wonderful DVD Player For The Price.

(5 out of 5) by KW on Dec 19, 2003 (OHIO USA)
This is a great dvd player. I could not wait to try it out so while the battery was charging I stuck a dvd in. The dvd happened to be Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. I tried it without headphones and found the sound absolutely great When you use headphones it is just as great. The sound is rich, the picture sharp. You can have the picture in widescreen or regular. Everything is easy to use ( the remote) and works well. The battery was easy to install and directions are easy to read and understand. Cds are fantastic on this player with or without headphones. Very, very happy!

Fantastic!!

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Feb 10, 2004
I am so pleased with this little dvd player.. the picture quality is clear and the sound is great. I took it on a recent trip and it charged up perfectly and played just as I expected. No surprises! I can't help but compare this one to another portable dvd player I had to send back recently as would not work correctly - the audiovox was even less expensive! I would recommend this to anyone who would like a lightweight, dependable portable dvd.

Terrific DVD Player for the money!

(5 out of 5) by KW on May 27, 2004 (OHIO USA)
I bought this for a planned cross country road trip that did not happen. Now I use it often if not for movies, to listen to music. The picture is great, sharp and clear. The sound is great as well.It is lightweight and it comes with the things you need to either use it in a car or to hook it up to your tv at home. The battery holds the charge well. Things that are important to me in a portable. Do not let the price fool you. Yes it is lower than most other portables but the quality is outstanding. I would and will someday buy another.

Gift for husband

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Apr 27, 2004
I bought this for my husband's birthday (50 - so I splurged a bit). He absolutely loved it! Our two teenage children were fascinated. My husband's co-worker wanted to see it - and then ordered one for herself. My husband loves to watch dvds that I don't really want to see so the portability of the dvd player is very useful to us. It has a great picture - extremely clear. I highly recommend this player.

Arghhh! What kind of design is that???

(2 out of 5) by J. Hopkins on Sep 12, 2004 (Denver, CO)
I've had the D1501 for about 4 months now and I was really pleased in the beginning, BUT...

Early on, I started having trouble with the unit suddenly saying the DVD compartment lid was open in the middle of playback. After looking at how the switch works, I found that a thin tab on the lid has to push down a small, round button to activate the switch. Since the lid is plastic, which can flex, the tab slips off the button. This happens even when the unit is just hooked up to a TV and is not being handled. WHAT KIND OF DESIGN IS THAT FOR A UNIT THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE PORTABLE???

More recently, the switch that operates the LCD (which uses a similar "tab on button" design) has been failing. I'm incredibly disappointed, because this DVD player is great otherwise.

I'm very careful with my electronic stuff, so I can't image how this might cause problems for those road-warrior types. I just don't understand why Audiovox didn't invest a little more thought and money into two switches which get activated each time you play a DVD.
