SIX STARS--The BEST charger ever!

(5 out of 5) by Andrew J. Riemer on Feb 27, 2005 (Winsted, MN United States)
This really is the BEST charger I have ever used. I've had one for over a year now, and I must admit I was skeptical about the claims of 15-minute charges, but am pleased to report it really lived up to the hype!

They really charge in fifteen minutes, and they last a long time in my digital camera. They also don't have the "memory" problem some other rechargeables have, so you can charge them when they are totally drained or when they are nearly full without impacting the battery life.

With typical alkalines, I may get up to 30 minutes of camera use. With these, I have been able to take photos during a day-long event without needing to change sets! The most non-flash photos on a single charge? 279!

The rapid charge time almost eliminates the need for extra sets of batteries (ones normally set aside to charge while the other set is in use), but for a high-demand device like a camera, it may still be a good option.

The charger shuts off once the charge cycle is completed, so you don't need to worry about overcharging, or leaving the charger "on".

ONE WARNING - THE BATTERIES GET REALLY HOT!
-------------------------------------------
Don't throw them in the charger and then ask a young child to retrieve them. My hands are thick-skinned and calloused, and I still find them very hot to the touch!

Fast and good loader

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Oct 6, 2003 (Vienna, Austria (Europe))
I just got myself the 2 battery at once version in Utah during my vacation and went for a full test:
Charging is really 15 min max!
With an 4 cell AA Olympus E-10 I took 300 photos with flash plus several minutes of viewing photos before the system told me that the battery is weak.
This is tremendous for a USD 20 charger including 2 batteries.
Thumbs up for the speed/performance/price ration!

Best Domestic Battery Charger

(5 out of 5) by fredtownward on Jan 26, 2006 (Palatine, Illinois United States)
Unless you are planning travel to a country with something other than 100-125 volt range AC, this 4 position AA/AAA battery charger is a better choice than Rayovac's dual voltage 2-position charger Rayovac PS 5-B - Power adapter + battery charger 2 x AA NiMH. The 15-minute recharging time (for I-C3 batteries only) cannot be beat.

Note: in addition to the free Rayovac I-C3 15 Minute NiMH AA Size Carded 2 Pack, inside the package is an offer for a cigarette lighter adapter for only the cost of shipping and handling (and enclosing the charger's UPC). It is well worth the price because the 15-minute recharging time makes auto recharging practical even during local driving.

In addition I-C3 batteries do get very hot during their rapid charge, not hot enough to really burn you or to damage the device you put them into, but certainly hot enough to startle you into dropping them if you are not prepared for it. It is also worth noting that the charger switches automatically to trickle-charging in case you want to keep a set of batteries "topped off".

great for cameras and anything that loves batteries

(5 out of 5) by Donavan Johnston on Jan 17, 2004 (Winter Haven, FL)
I bought this because I thought hey if it can charge in 15 minutes that is great. I got it and it charged them, and then I put the batteries in my camera took lots of photos, no problems. I charged my Ni-Cd in it charged them better then my normal charger. Would I tell others to get this? Oh gosh yes, buy it and never buy any other batteries again. This could be the end of the alkaline battery as we know it.

Good charger

(5 out of 5) by Matthew Brooks on Feb 1, 2007 (Hoover, AL United States)
I've had one of these for three years and have used it along with the same 4-AA IC3 batteries to keep my digital camera going. The unit does as promised, charging in about 15 minutes and it will charge non-IC3 batteries, too, though very slowly (seems to be at least 8 hours for a 900 mAh AAA).

I did not pay this much for it, though ($45 for the two-bat charger and 2 included batteries), when I bought it. Rayovac no longer makes this product, their premier rechargeables being Hybrids (which are just regular NIMH but have a very low self-discharge rate; normal nimh discharge at 1%/day or so and these other ones at substantially slower than that). Getting the IC3 batteries is increasingly hard and the charger will only fast-charge IC3 batteries.

With other chargers on the market now, including fast chargers from duracell and energizer, as well as super-chargers like the La Crosse BC900, I would not buy an IC3 now, but it has been a good charger.
