Finally RECALLED....please read for info

(1 out of 5) by koko61 on Jun 26, 2005 (Virginia)
For those of you who have been trying to get this monitor replaced, I just got off the phone with HP Technical Support and, after screaming at three different people who kept telling me that they could not help me unless I paid for the privilege to talk to them (because the warranty is expired), I finally got to speak to a fourth person...a supervisor. After giving him my serial number, I was told that this monitor HAS BEEN RECALLED and will be replaced free of charge. I do not have the specifics yet as to how it will be accomplished, but I was given a case number and was told that he (the supervisor) would personally call me back within a day or two with the details. In the meantime, I still have to unplug the monitor and plug it back in every time it blacks out. This morning, that was happening every 2-3 seconds, but right now it seems to be ok for the moment. So, to everyone who has been ripped off with this monitor, get on the phone right now to HP Technical Support, tell them that you have a monitor that has been recalled, and don't take no for an answer. Good luck!!

good monitor for those who like seeing black

(1 out of 5) by M. Oconnell on Jun 2, 2005 (Connecticut)
Great. I've had this monitor for just about a year and suddenly the screen goes black for no reason. Press the button and the screen will work for another 8 seconds, then go black suddenly. Press it off, press it on, it'll work for 8 seconds.

Apparently from forums i have read, a vast majority of other owners have this monitor problem, and unfortunately there's no class action suit to recall the monitor. After a year of any of their products, HP wants nothing to do with you. Right now i'm using my faithful old CRT monitor too, the very thing i tried to replace.

Ah well, how utilitarian of me to support big business at the expense of myself.

Extremely poor quality

(1 out of 5) by Mr. Eric J. Bird on Jun 4, 2005 (Melbourne, Australia)
I purchased this monitor with a HP desktop on the 3rd of May 2004. 13 months and 1 day later, on the 4th of June 2005, the monitor screen would go black, but the power button would remain lit. To get it to work again, you would have to turn it off and turn it back on. However, this problem re-occurs again around 10 seconds later, rendering the monitor useless. Designed obsolescene. Isn't it fantastic?

Good while it lasted :(

(1 out of 5) by Kobus Swart on Jun 24, 2005 (Adelaide, South Australia)
Excellent while it lasted. About two months after warranty expired, "Blackout" problems started. Same as hundreds of other results on various search engines. Monitor is useless now, I am also in full support of the possible Class Action that is being investigated. HP refuse to admit monitor has a problem and refuse to recall monitors.

Mine HP pavilion f1703 lasts 16 months

(1 out of 5) by T Le on Jun 22, 2005
After 16 months, my HP pavilion f1703 is burnt although
the power light is still on. The picture quality is not bad
but its lifetime is too short. I won't buy HP monitor again.
