Works great with Dell Inspiron 700m laptop

(5 out of 5) by Dr Jerry Hill on Jul 17, 2008 (Virginia)
Looked at a number of companies' memory chips and decided to take chance on PNY. I have used their products in the past and been completely satisfied. I purchased this for my 700m (and specifically wanted to mention this since I had a hard time determining the requirements for a 700m). The Dell takes one or two modules up to 1GB each. They don't have to match in size, so I am told, but it is best if they do. I purchased two 1GB modules. Installation was not as easy as expected, but not hard either. The lower memory module is inserted by removing the "M" panel from the bottom of the Inspiron. The upper module requires that you disassemble part of the computer. Again, not as hard as expected. [...] It took me about 20 minutes to install both chips and get the laptop up and running. What a difference! I started with 2 x 256MB and upgraded to 2 x 1GB. Where the laptop churned and churned when I switched users--taking 2-3 minutes to switch--now a user change takes about 10-15 secs.
Should things change after I have had them for a while, I will update this. For the moment, I am very pleased.

Didn't work in my Powerbook G4

(1 out of 5) by D. Belden on Aug 4, 2007 (Chicago, IL USA)
These particular modules didn't work in my 15" Powerbook G4 1.25ghz. With them installed, things seemed fine for a while, and then applications would start freezing, and then the whole system would freeze. According to Other World Computing, this is probably due to a specific issue with these systems, and not an indication that the memory itself is bad. Still, I wish this possibility was mentioned by PNY in their documentation. Crucial or Samsung OEM is probably the only way to go in my case.

Cheap and fast

(5 out of 5) by Brian Kenney on Apr 18, 2007 (Minnesota)
I had two sticks of 256MB PC2700 RAM in my Dell Inspiron 600m and one of them had fried. I desperately needed an upgrade. After doing a ton of online research, I settled on a 1gb stick of PNY PC2700 RAM and found that Amazon offered the best price over anyone else. Best Buy was selling the same RAM for 200% more! (the crooks)

I learned later on that this particular stick of RAM came from a CompUSA in Pennsylvania, which was going out of business.

Delivery was very fast and the item arrived safely. After a quick installation of the new RAM the performance difference was immediately apparent and there were no problems whatsoever.

I've been running my new RAM for nearly a month now and have no complaints despite the fact that my laptop gets as hot as the sun. If I should decide to upgrade to 2gb of RAM, I'll be sure to order the exact same thing. :)

Not Compatible with Dell Inspiron 5100

(1 out of 5) by Robert M. Weiland on Aug 1, 2008 (Philadelphia, PA)
I ordered this item to upgrade my Dell Inspiron 5100. This was recommended by the PNY configurator on their website. The first set I received didn't work.

After contact with PNY, they stated I needed to upgrade my BIOS, so I did that and still neither chip works. I exchanged the RAM and received new PNY sticks of RAM and neither of them worked either.

I am returning this for a refund / store credit.

PNY Notebook Memory Module

(5 out of 5) by Lucian on Jul 5, 2007
This PNY memory module fit my 2003 IBM notebook computer perfectly. I had did my research, as to the correct type, by contacting IBM. IBM was great, but the price for their memory was several times more than the PNY. Since my computer is an older model, it did not make dollar sense to spent the extra momey. The directions for installation was in the packaging, plus available on line. Installation was quick & easy. My operating system, Windows XP, recognized the additional memory immediately. I would buy this product again.
