Doing Fine So Far

(5 out of 5) by L. M Young on Jan 20, 2005 (Marietta, GA USA)
We bought this unit about a month ago to replace a microwave, small electric oven, and George Foreman grill (we'd used the latter so much we had completely worn the teflon finish off the grill plates) due to the size of our kitche. Unfortunately we got the floor model which had the cookbook swiped from it and Sharp wants $22 for the 48 page cookbook, so we are using the manual and cooking by guess and by golly. We have broiled both steaks and pork chops in the oven and they come out wonderfully in about 15 minutes; even pork loin chops with the fat taken off come out moist and juicy. The combo-bake feature which combines microwave with convection works great; chicken bakes in half the time but tastes just as if it has been roasted in an oven for the full time. Microwave-wise, it takes a few more seconds to warm up things than with our 1.3 cubic foot 1000-watt old unit, but it's not much of a bother. I love the "minute plus" feature.

The only one for me

(5 out of 5) by E. Newton on Apr 4, 2006 (Livingston, TX)
This is the second one of this model I have purchased and it is only because we moved house that I had to buy this one. This is the best combination oven that I could find and the only one that I could find that one can "build in". It is easy to operate and performs great.

Sharp R-930AK 1-1/2-Cubic-Foot 900-Watt Convection Microwave

(5 out of 5) by Vicki Nannizzi on Mar 15, 2006 (LODI, CA)
Just perfect, fit in the spot we had for it, and worked right off the get go. Nice large interior, and easy to clean. If it last as long as the other one we had (SHARP) I'll be happy. Wouldn't have to buy a new one but had a power surge, which got our 16 year old SHARP microwave. Thank you AMAZON, for the fast service, Ordered on a SUNDAY, AND HAD IT TUESDAY. NOW THAT IS FAST!

Great microwave and convection!

(5 out of 5) by KT on Jul 29, 2005 (Northern VA, USA)
Sure, it's heavy and bulky, but wouldn't you want a sturdy appliance when you're making a large roast or have 2 trays of cookies baking at once? This convection/microwave combo is GREAT for baking, reheating, roasting, broiling, etc. I never use my full-size oven/range because I can do so much cooking a lot quicker in the Sharp convection oven. It cooks things evenly and it's fairly easy to use. I've had mine for 1 1/2 years and have had no problems at all. It's a shame I didn't buy mine now because we paid over $500 for it then and it has been worth every penny!

Too large outside and too heavy for warranty service

(1 out of 5) by Carol on Jul 2, 2004 (Chatsworth, CA United States)
I have the same unit in black, which is a little more expensive, just for the color. This unit is extremely heavy. It took two of us, and a chair with wheels, to move it 15 feet and get it onto the counter. I've had it one month and it stopped working. If I want in home service I have to pay. It has to be carried to a service center. It weighs more than my 32" TV. Sharp did give me the phone number of the only two service centers in my general area, one was Sears. But when I got it there, after talking to Sharp 4 times about service, Sears asked where my letter fro Sharp was, authorizing them to do the repair... aaahh.. letter?

Before it broke, it heated unevenly and isn't as powerful as the 1200 watt unit I gave away to have the combo micro / convection. It does't pop corn very well at all, but it does heat my coffee. What a mistake. The Sharp sales info line was every helpful BEFORE they had my money. Now that they have it, their attitude has completely changed. They have a very "business like" attitude and basically could care less. It's disappointing.

The unit is huge on the outside but not nearly as large on the inside as my old microwave oven which was so much smaller on the outside. I made a huge and costly mistake. If you have to have a convection oven, get one with a reasonable warranty for service for such a large, heavy appliance.

On the other hand, Amazon has been WONDERFUL! At least I did something right when I made this purchase!
