OK - I only paid $45.00, including shipping for my new, in the box, never installed, Jensen CDH900 - I was really stoked about it, my really nice Pioner had fried on me, and thinking about quality Jensen speakers from my rock guitarist side of life, I though I must have gotten the deal of the century... It has some really great sounding features, and looked very hip and cool in the photos!!! Oh Boy, lets rock out!!!..
Well, it arrived, looked great, I took it to the local car stereo guys to install (since I couldn't figure how to get the old stereo out of the dash - they gave me a set of the little grabbers to keep, because I'd probably want another stereo soon - DUH). I asked the kid installing it if it was as good as the Pioner he was taking out - he said, uh, no, you'll notice a difference in the sound, this Jensen is, sort of , well, generic and not half the stereo as your last one! I mentioned about Jensen speakers, and he he said, well, yeah, their speakers rock, but their stereos suck!!! Well, sorry to say he was right -- here's the bad news...
1. Check the high frequency response, this thing has no trebble range, cymbals don't sizzle, highs sound flat and it has no sparkle! And - yes I adjusted the trebble setting to MAX!
2. What were they thinking, the CD player skips every time you go over the smallest bump in the road, I don't mean like on a really bad road, any player can skip, but this piece jumps all over the place all the time, you can't hardly even enjoy a CD for all the skipping!!!
3. OK, the clock only dispalys for a short time when you press the time display button, then goes back to audio display, and the face is dead unless you turn the stero on. So, it doens't display the time like most stereos do, it's a dead face unless you turn it on to play music, and like I said, even if you want a clock display, you can't have it for more than a few seconds.
So - here's the deal, I'm a bit pissed and I paid less than $50.00 delivered new... If I paid $100+ for this pile, I'd be livid -- to it's credit, it does have a bit of power and is loud, it does have a pretty heavy bottom end and if you like thump thump thump, you might like it (except your CD's will be thumping around as well every bump) and it does have sort of a cool techno face - OH - but the face is sooo bright, that it's a bit of a distraction at night -- So, do yourself a favor, buy a real stereo, don't buy this thing!!! After all, you don't always get what you pay for, but you always pay for what you get!!!
