Very good cordless phone, but beware...

(5 out of 5) by Gadgester on Nov 10, 2003 (Mother Earth)
This is a very good basic cordless phone that has great sound quality and clarity at a lovely price. It's very easy to use. Unlike newer cordless phones, the model has just one "talk" button, so you don't have to remember to press an off button. The volume control is at an obvious place.

The only thing you should keep in mind is if you use wi-fi at home (or Bluetooth), both the phone and your wireless device will operate at 2.4Ghz and there can be interference. Depending on your setup and location, the interference may persist even if you change the channels on the phone.

Of course, if you don't use wi-fi, this is not a concern to you.

This is just a great phone.

Everything bad you could possibly expect

Possibly one of the worst cordless phones out there. Terrible reception, annoying static no matter how close or far you are from the base, and it has the worst sound quality ever. The battery life is also horrible - I've owned this phone for only a year, and already had to purchase a new battery (and we hardly even use this phone).

save yourself the time and money and pass on this phone.

Basic 2.4 GHZ Phone

(4 out of 5) by C. OrdoƱez on Apr 24, 2004 (Tegucigalpa, Honduras)
I bought this phone to replace another 2.4 Ghz phone I got (UNIDEN). The first one broke down twice in a year and I thought "Maybe I should buy a new one" (DUH).

Pros: Pretty slim, and light (In comparison with my latest phone, it weights like a feather). Good range. If you install it in a good-center area it should not bother you at all. Like the 2 minutes pager function. Plus it has the option of "pause" for sending tones in network operator. Good volume. The feature allowing you to set it on the wall is great. It keep it's upright position. Complete it with a digital answer machine (Inexpensive some models) and you'll be fine.

Cons: It's pretty basic. Doesn't have any caller ID or answering machine. It only have 10 memory preset (I already have 5 stored) only two ring tones (Want poliphonic? get a cell). Doesn't have any mute option.

I give it four stars because as a basic phone it won't let you down.

Do not buy this phone

(2 out of 5) by VegChef on Feb 21, 2004 (College Park, MD United States)
I bought this phone to replace a 900 mHz model that had poor reception. What a mistake. This one is by far much worse. The call quality is the worst I have ever experienced in a cordless phone. I've tried changing the channel, but I'm convinced that does nothing. The range is horrendous. If you venture more than 20 feet from the receiver, your call is completely taken over by static. It looks nice, that's about the only good thing I can say about it.

Reliable Phone at a Great Price

(5 out of 5) by John Thomson on Feb 16, 2004 (Kansas City)
I've had this GE phone for four months, now. I bought it despite dire warnings from users who've had trouble with nearly every brand and model of wireless phone. I'm happy to say that I've had no trouble with the phone, and am particulary pleased with the call quality.

Calls are clear, and without static or popping, from every part of my house. Signal strength is uniform throughout the house, and I rarely if ever need to switch channels to get a better reception. The phone does have a faintly hollow tone compared to a land line, but it's barely noticeable and you'd have to be very sensitive for it to be an issue.

Another reviewer noted that this unit may conflict with wi-fi. I run wi-fi in my house, and have tested call quality with the wireless network on and off, and with the phone's base unit in many different locations. I can plainly state that my phone is unaffected by the wireless network, even when I put the base station right next to the wireless network transmitter.

The features of this phone are simple and easy to use. The caller ID pops up quickly and is easy to read. The numbers are easy to read and sound when you touch them. I don't use the programming feature to store numbers, but it appears to be simple to do for those that may want to. It's not chock full of features, but it does have a great set of features for the price. I can recommend this unit unconditionally.
