Awesome!! For music and HT!!! Velodyne quality at a great price!!!!

(5 out of 5) by Nelson Cheung on Nov 6, 2007 (Fresh Meadows, NY)
Did a lot of research on forums and web searches and decided on the Velodyne VX-10! The reviews seem to be extremely positive, both professional and amateur so I decided to bite the bullet! It was in my budget which was between 150-200 and the Velodyne name is synonymous with high quality subwoofers anyway. Well this baby lived up the Velodyne name!!

This baby won't shake the rooftops down but it is damn powerful and coupled with my fronts can really make the floor shake! It's awesome in a HT set-up and listening to "The Incredibles" final action sequence is just pretty awesome!

With music the bass is just right without being overpowering and it blends so nicely with my set-up!! I got a great deal on some Swan speakers (Floorstanding speakers) and this woofer just does the heavy lifting with absolute ease accenting my fronts with great ambient precision!!

The build quality is also so fantastic! What else can you expect from Velodyne! And this sucker is heavy as hell!!! Heavier than my L/R front speakers and they are pretty damn heavy!!!

Get this baby, highly recommended, especially from a company that specializes in subwoofers! Yes it's not their high end, but their low end is just as good!! This is a great subwoofer!!

meets and exceeds ALL my expectations

(5 out of 5) by T. Hardin on Dec 21, 2006 (seaside,oregon)
First off,I am by no means an Audiophile and/or expert on audio equipment - so my opinion may not be of much value to those with more developed tastes. However,I feel so strongly that I received an excellent value I felt inclined to share none-the-less.
My objective was to enhance my two channel stereo audio system with the bass that a subwoofer obviously provides.I wanted to hear this enhancement without blowing glass off the wall,or receiving angry response from neihbors next door : let me say, this truly brought my music "to life" like I hadn't experienced before! I am listening to recordings 20 plus years old,and it almost sounds like the musicians are playing in the same room as I!And the price? Shop around, subwoofers aren't cheap - this unit is selling for a fraction of what others retail for.
In summary, for my needs I don't know how this could possibly perform any better.I just wish I had invested in a quality sub years ago!

Large Room with a Large Boom!

(5 out of 5) by T. Misina on Nov 11, 2007 (PHX, AZ)
I was quite concerned about comparing money versus "boom", but after finally making the choice after a lot of research I was extreamly please to hear and feel the sound that came out of the Velodyne VX-10. I have it connected to a new Sony DG 1000 Receiver(same as the high end ES 3000!!!), also highly recommended after tons of research comparing, just ask my wife. All said and done this sub clearly filled my 20 x 30 Living/kitchen room with tight booming bass that every human should have in their house.

Upside: inexpensive, great tight bass, and compact size.

Downside: no LFE input, I used the LFE from the Sony into one of the RCA inputs, and it works fine.

What a GREAT sound!!

(4 out of 5) by E. Jones on Jun 21, 2008 (boston)
I love this thing. Very true sound - not just the "thump, thump" you get from other units. I thought the pricing was very reasonable. You could spend alot more, but I don't see the point for a normal sized room. Truthfully, I do have the thing capped out, but it fills the 20'x15' room nicely and rattles everything that's not nailed down. You would need one with more volume for a bigger room. This replaced a small powered Sony one that I actually had for my audio system and stole it for the surround system when I got my plasma TV. I missed having a sub-woofer on the stereo and broke down and bought the Velodyne for the TV - it was a good move - this blows the Sony away.

Great product from a great name

(5 out of 5) by David Droste on Apr 4, 2008 (MI)
The only bad thing I had been able to find through four different review sites was the color of the grill is grey instead of black. Personally, I find it to be an attractive look, and negligible anyways. The sound from this unit is perfect. Being adjustable, the amount of bass can be set as desired. The bass is very tight and accurate. With my Denon receiver at very low volumes, the auto on feature doesn't work. However, like I said, excessively low volume, it does function at a db or two higher, still low volume.
