Still kickin' after 5 years...

(5 out of 5) by Publius on Aug 20, 2009
This Dvd player has served me well. I finally replaced it with a new one just for the upconversion, but it's still kickin. Although, about a year ago, it started skipping quite a bit. It was just a matter of cleaning the lens, and i was good to go again.

The NS725P is junk.

After a few months, it starts to make noises and will say "Cannot Play Disc" on disks that play just fine in my other DVD player and on my desktop and laptop computers. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. I would give it zero stars it I could.

Four years and still running

In progressive mode, the quality of picture form this DVD player approximates the quality of a high-definition player. Reviewers seem to be unaware that a coaxial hookup (Monster makes a good cable) is absolutely essential for optimal performance. The quality can only be as good as the conduit that takes the picture from the player to the television, and this extremely light player, with user-friendly remote, performs better than most.

I highly recommend this player for your collection of non-Blu ray DVDs (and like me, I'm sure you have many of them). Enjoy.

All-Star Performance!

(5 out of 5) by Johnny Jackson on Jan 10, 2009 (Louisiana)
After reading different personal-user reviews on many different products, specifically Sony brand, I decided to read the reviews on a product I have that I bought, which is this Sony DVP/DVD/CD player.

All products have flaws--they are made by humans--who have flaws. I have been comparing, reviewing, and looking very closely at Blue-Ray, HDTV's of LCD and Plasma fame along with "supporting" audio/video products and to tell you the truth this Sony player that I'm writing about does one heck of a job on a 9-year old Sharp 27" tv! Friends who have seen what this dvd player does are just flabbergasted by the picture quality! It goes beyond what it supposed to do and impresses superbly. I have an old Optimus Professional Series A/V reciever, 2-channel, using two 15" Pioneer floor model speakers with a pair of Optimus surround speakers and this setup sounds great! The bashing that I've read here is incredible. You may have gotten that one "lemon" that shows up in every 1 out of 100 basket of apples. I'm not trading mine in, but will get a second dvd player just for the heck of it. Next time you are not satisfied with a product, get another one JUST LIKE IT and see if that helps first.
