Great Radar Detector for the price

(5 out of 5) by B. Junker on Sep 12, 2005 (Cincinnati, OH)
I've only used this for a long trip and some city driving. Have been very impressed that I almost always was alerted before actually seeing the radar toting cop. The only time I could see him was on a very clear day going down a very long slope, probably from a mile out. Pros: great reception and easily readable graphics. Cons: N/A

Whistler Works

(5 out of 5) by R.D. on Dec 6, 2006 (USA)
I've had this Whistler for about a week now and it works great. I have been using a $300.00 escort for years but I wanted a new one and they are still over $300.00. Every other high technology item has gone down about 80% over the years except Escort and Passport detectors! I figured the other brand names should have caught up by now and so far, so good. The voice alert is very nice so I dont have to look at the display to see what type of signal is detected. The city mode has worked for me very well as on my daily drive there is usually radar being used and it warned me each time. The cheaper ones usually go off too much but this one seems to do a good job. It alerts to X band, which is the one used by door openers, but only alerts again if it gets stronger. You can also turn off that band alltogether but I leave it on as some older radar guns still use it. These settings are all adjustable in the city modes. The unit is small, which I like, and has a suction cup bracket for the windshield. It also shows up to 60 different text messages on the display if there is a road hazard or traffic jam and you are in an area with that broadcast signal, but I have'nt seen any messages yet (luckily). I give it 2 thumbs up.

Cool gadget !

(5 out of 5) by J. L. Seagull on Feb 15, 2006 (Tijuana, Mexico.)
I used to get pulled over quite frequently and spent a ton of money just to pay those pesky speeding tickets, but since a friend of mine recomended me the Whistler 1753 Laser-Radar detector I haven't been ticketed once because it has a good range and alerts on time enough to speed down. If you travel frequently on the highways I really recomended because it will save you a couple of tickets and already should pay off for the machine. And it works in Mexico too!.

A great buy!

(5 out of 5) by J. Lazaro on Dec 10, 2006
I like my Whistler.

I was going uphill and it went off. About a mile and a half down the hill was a Highway Patrol car hiding in brush. It does not detect cop cars/highway patrol, but it does detect their radars and from adequate distance for you to slow down in case you are going over the speed limit.

It is also extremely loud if you have the volume turned all the way up.
It woke me up every time.
My sister and father got one after they saw my Whistler. I cannot imagine driving without it. A great product, I am happy with it.

Whistler 1753

(5 out of 5) by Danny Scott on Mar 8, 2007 (NJ /USA)
I bought one - loved it - bought a second to replace an older model in another car. They are both great. The VG2 mode is really cool. Just last night it went off before a bend in the Parkway, I trusted it, hit the brakes and there on the other side was our Happy Law Enforcement Agent just waiting. The auto-quiet setting is very nice as well, it alerts you then shuts up. I researched it - for the price Can't Do Better! Danny Scott/ NJ
