Best bang for the buck among the usual suspects by far.

Ive owned the following table radios in my pursuit to find the one that sounds the best.
1) Cambridge 730
2) tivoli radio 2 + subwoofer
3) Boston Acoustics Recepter HD

and ive listened to a bunch of others including the notoriously famous for allthe wrong reasons Bose Wave radio,

and the bottom line is the 730 wins hands down. its no contest. sound quality wise, it trumps the tivoli, recepter HD and Bose wave. (THe Boston has HD reception, which in the location i am sounds the same as regular reception)

The Boston uses a volume dependent equalizer curve to tweak the tone of the sound. its tuned bassy which suits small speakers and produces a warm mellow non fatiguing sound. unfortunately the lack of tone controls is annoying as stations all equalize the broadcasts and they dont all sound the same. The recepter HDs replacements are also remarkable units and sound better than the recepter HD but doesnt quite compare (not by much) to the Cambridge 730.

The Tivoli has a thin fatiguing sound. its pretty as a hot model in a dress slit up to the hip, no worries, but substance wise - it falls flat. far from stellar sound, no tone controls and worse of all, station drift. It serves better as decor. i payed a pretty overpriced penny for that thing. While somewhat of a conversation piece, it comes dead last compared to the four mentioned.

The Bose sounds somewhat like the Boston with an equalized tone curve applied to it, but while it sounds pleasant enough,it certainly doesnt justify its outrageous price and simply doesnt hold a candle to the Cambridge 730.

Note that both the Cambridge and the Tivoli have been touched by the hand of Henry Kloss, yet the Tivoli got ruined somewhere along the way. Kloss wouldnt be pleased.

Cons of the Cambridge 730? yeah, it doesnt sound better than the Polk Isonic or a Meridian. but that certainly gives you an idea of the company it keeps. and for the price paid, that is good company indeed.

Bottom line, pay for someting that genuinely sounds good, good reception and has the basic features to aid proper placement (tone controls to compensate for wall/corner loading - its a table radio after all) providing a truly excellent listening experience. RDS, front and back auxillary inputs, two alarms, remote are bonuses.

SOUND UNBELIEVABLE

I own a Bose and was not completely happy, to say, Bose is overated is an understatement. I purchased cambridge, just no comparison, I immediately unplugged and replaced with the Cambridge. I can not comprehend how much sound comes out of such small compact radio. I am a music freak, and HIGHLY recommend Cambridge, not to mention price is less than half the price of Bose with 75% more functions not to mention as I have previously the sound quality. Happy customer.

This was a smart choice on my husband's part. He needed something for work and he wanted something similar in size to the Bose Wave that we purchased several years ago. When we got it and plugged it in, this is something we decided was far superior to the Bose. Extremely happy with the purchase. Needless to say, this is not something that went to work with him. We have both been enjoying it ever since. Far superior sound quality. You won't believe your ears!

Amazing sound

As advertised, this radio provides full, well-rounded sound in a small package. However, I returned it because it was the wrong color and reordered it from another site.
