Soundworks Radio -- Great Listening
I'm not a classic music fan. Rather, I listen to country and "oldies" since I'm an oldie myself. This radio provides all of the listening pleasure I could desire. I wouldn't say it's better or worse than the Bose, which seems to be the standard used by other raters. However, I've now heard both and feel that it is comparable to the Bose for sure. I found that the wide setting without the bass boost suits my taste. Like one of the other raters, I like the fact that the radio comes on when a number button is pushed. I also like having controls on the radio itself instead of using the remote exclusively.
I added a Sony 5-disk CD player/recorder, and the total price was about half of the price for the Bose Music System.

Sound....
Ok, I am a very big critic on everything. I realy like the sound that this nice small sleek radio can give out. I am a sound freak, I love to hear as many different notes and sounds as possible in my music, and this radio has not let me down. I realy don't use it much for the AM, FM radio feature but I do have my i-Pod connected to it and the sound is so clear (as long as use put the seting to your liking). The alarm is realy not that loud but it does do the job just right. When I say "just right" I mean not to loud for you to get pissed off every time it goes off and not to low to keep you asleep and miss an appointment.
Well I just want to say, you are getting everything you paid for.

Great Radio
Had the Bose and sent it back, nice but not for me. I read a few reviews about this radio and decided to give it a try, I was not disappointed. This is a great radio with really great sound. Has adjustable bass and treble settings, which the Bose lacks, and this little wonder fills the entire room with rich music. This one I keep.

Sound is great, but not so good for an alarm
I'm really pleased with this purchase as a radio. The AUX inputs allow me to plug in my iPod, which I love. The full sound is incredible, even in a room with vaulted ceilings. Controls are very easy to use, and I think the remote works great. I do agree with other reviewers that the bass is a bit much on a hard surface, so I have it turned way down. Still sounds great.
What I don't like: I intended to use this as an alarm clock as well as a table radio ... but the alarm indicator and display light up my room brighter than any nightlight! Other folks have mentioned it, but you really have to see it to believe it. The display has an auto dim function when the room gets dark, so it actually looks quite nice at night until you turn on the alarm. The "alarm on" LED is so bright that the light sensor then turns the display up thinking its daytime. I guess you could tape something over the display at night if you wanted to but .... Anyway, beware if you intend to purchase for the same reason I did.
BTW, I still use the radio every day. All I did was buy a (...)Sony clock radio to use as an alarm instead!

Cambridge SoundWorks 730 Radio
I owned a Model 88 radio for about 4 years. It sounded good, but I had to replace the woofer volume control several times because of its cheap construction. The radio failed, emitting horrible noises. The 730 seemed to be a good replacement. The sound is very good. The loudness control makes speech seem boomy. The bass and treble controls work O.K. The two alarm work O.K. on the radio settings but I can't hear the alarms on the tone settings. The sleep setting makes it possible to turn off the the radio after a preset delay, a nice touch. The woofer vents out of the bottom of the case, so the radio needs to be placed on a non vibrating surface. (Not stacked on other equipment). The tuner is not very sensitive. I would rate the 730 a little lower in sound quality than the Model 88. I hope it is more durable than the Model 88.
