Great sound, nice looking package!

If you want a CD player that you'll use while exercising (IE, walking and running), this probably isn't the one for you. Don't get me wrong--it's a great CD player. It's just that it comes with this little loop that's meant to be a handle. I can't imagine running around dangling this thing from my wrist.

BUT -- if you want a CD player and you won't be running around with it, this is definitely a great buy. The earphones are kinda awkward even though the sound is awesome. I'd recommend getting a different pair. The cool thing is the remote control plugs in to the headphones jack, and then the remote has a jack for the headphones. That means no matter what your preference is for earphone styles, you'll still be able to use the remote. The remote is easy to use.

The buttons on the top of the CD player are easy to press (unlike models that have all the buttons on the side...if you're using this in the car while driving, it's a definite consideration.) It's also easy to remember which button is which, in case you're in the dark and you're just pressing buttons.

I've yet to hear this player skip, and the player itself doesn't make too much noise while reading the CD.

The FM stereo part of the player works great, too. It comes with 20 preset channels (which is more than enough, at least where I live), and you can set these channels to your favorites...the whole process is very easy. It even has a "seek" option. The stations all come in clear; I was able to get stations on here that I can barely get in my car.

The only thing I feel is really missing in this package is an AC adapter so you're not constantly using batteries. It does have a decent battery life, using only 2 AAs. (Check into rechargeable batteries, they're much more economical in the long run.)

Anyway, I give it four stars out of five, only because of the exercise limitations. If you're just going to sit and listen to music, this is the one for you. It's definitely reasonably priced!

Great player

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Feb 1, 2005
I'm very suprised by the amount of negative reviews of this CD player. It's wonderful! It's just awesome because you can listen to a CD and then the radio at the same time. The red color has little mini sparkles and they look so cool. The headphones aren't to good, and I would recommend a different pair. The skip-protection actually works, unlike most CD players that have this option. The presets on the radio are convinent and easy to set and use. I would recommend anyone to buy this CD player. It's just awesome.

DO NOT BUY THIS CD PLAYER!!!

(1 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Nov 13, 2004
When i first bought this player, i thought it was pretty good. I already knew it wasn't the best i'd had, but all my cd players break eventually...within a couple years or so. This one however, was by far the quickest one to break. The volume buttons were always a bit funky, they eventually started sticking, and the volume only went up to 15 anyway. Now 15 doesn't sound bad, but on here, 15 can barely be heard. The radio volume was much louder for some reason, I wish the cd volume was so that i could have enjoyed this for the time it worked. Another thing is that the cds skipped A LOT! I've never seen a cd player that skipped worse than this. My cds are all in good condition and there were at least 10 skips in every song. I do have a couple cds that are old and scratched a bit, and they wouldn't play at all in this player!!! Eventually one day, about 3 months after i bought the player, the cd player quit working. I still have the player today, and the radio does still work, but if you put in a cd it doesn't read it at all. I know that all cd players have problems, and the one i bought to replace this one this winter is already starting to malfunction as well, but please do yourself a favor and do not buy this cd player.

RP2472 Review #2

(4 out of 5) by Person on Jan 23, 2005 (across the street)
Well, I've owned this for 8 months, and it's still in great shape. I've delete my old review, to write another review on this good CD player.

Radio - 5/5 Stars

Good reception on most stations, considering I live 15 miles away from metro Tucson (Marana to be exact), so most players would usually black out signally this far, but I can listen to most stations within this distance. The radio sound quality is poor, as on any FM...anything. Though, I don't blame RCA. It's ClearChannel that needs to have their equalizer adjusted. The presets are easy to preset. I put every station in order on the presets from the way their presented from (87.5 - 107.9). Mainly because of the distance of where I live make it hard to get a signal on some stations, making the seek feature skip some stations.

Sound/Bass Boost - 4/5 Stars

The bass and treble are NO problem whatsoever. The bass boost is truly effective. The gripe is that the volume, even on the highest setting, is kind of quiet. Anyway, great sound. Just a low peak volume.

CD Player - 5/5 Stars

The player has skipped barely, if not at all. All my CDs play fine, even the ones most scratched of all play well. And once again, quiet but great sound.

Headphones - 1/5 Stars

Just throw them away when you open it.

Construction - 5/5 Stars

Not even a scratch or malfunction ever since I bought it. Dropped over 5 times and not even a scratch. Even the Sony Walkman has that kind of construction. Actually, I banged this CD player with a hammer and ithad not even a scratch. I award RCA with this kind of durability.

Portability - 4/5 Stars

The CD player should fit in most small cases, though even if it's twice as blukier than other CD players (it that where it gets it's durability from?). Good for picky-but-not-to-picky travelers.

Cost - 0/0

I don't know the cost of it because I got it for a birthday present. If I was RCA, I'd price it $40-$50.

Battery Life - 5/5

It has an amazing battery life of 36 hours.

Overall - 4/5

Of all the CD players I've owned (2 Walkmans, 2 junky Memorexes, and 6 other CD players I've tried but not owned), this is the best of the bunch. The headphones suck, but just spend $10-$20 on another pair (volume control type recommended) and you'll be good to go.
