Odd connections, but decent product
The input/output connections for other video devices are a bit sparse on this product (you either have to use the front panel inputs or use a coax cable to hook up a VCR), but if a clean, simple design is what you're looking for, this might be perfect for you.
However, the retail price is a bit steep; check around to find the best deal.
good deal for the price
cost me 200 Canadian. it plays vcds (rather nice surprise for an older and cheaper home theatre system reciever), i've never had a problem with dvds with it, with cds it likes to go weird sometimes near the end of a cd but all in all it does play them well. in the future, i plan on purchasing a new cd/dvd player and will eliminate this system from my room, but for the time being i'm happy with it. for 200 bucks i think it's going to be hard to find a better solution for an "all-in-one" package (cds/dvds/surround sound), and you really won't get much better for such little money: compared to the boomboxes and all that stuff i think this is much better because of surround sound and the ability to play dvds. though most of the boomboxes around 200 have much better sound quality. if you're determined on buying one of these home theatre systems, don't waste much more than 200/250 because even ones around 400 offer very similar audio quality and other features (i've listened to a few, and there's very little difference). perhaps in the 500+ range you'll find something better, but i think if you're willing on spending 500+ you're better off investing in something other than an all-in-one package.
