Quality item

(5 out of 5) by B. Mabrie on Aug 20, 2004 (Los Angeles, CA)
I have previously owned three different MP3 players and this one is definetly the best. The shock protection is great; I've never experienced it skipping during regular movement ie: walking / running. I've even dropped it and my music doesn't skip. It's easy to use, and the battery life is excellent. Its only down side is that it doesn't have a built in radio and the battery charger was not included. But as far as MP3 quality is concerned, I wouldn't purchase a different model.

great product and weights less than a pound!

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Dec 26, 2003 (CA)
i just got the atrac3 for christmas and i can say one thing i LOVE it. first off its really REALLY light and it has many features. the sound is bangin when at all bass there is no fuzziness in the sound like in other cd/mp3 players.the headphones that they come with are really small lightweight and when you turn the volume up other people wont get bothered as much cause of the fact that the sound really stays only to your ears and doesnt sound off into the area your in like other headphones. i like that the mp3 player has a 3-line dot matrix (which means theres 3 lines of writing instead of 2). and lastly i really like the spinner dial (when you turn it it scrolls through your songs and then when you get to the one you want you push enter) because if your using the older model like the one used to have it would take forever to get from song-2-song cause when you are using an mp3 cd the cd stops spinning when your listening to a song(so that it saves the battery life) so when you pushed forward the cd would have to resume spinning and then it would take like 10 seconds too get to the next song! so now all i do is pick the song i want with the spinner dial and click enter instead of taking forever going through every song. in conclusion this cd/mp3 player is a really great item and should be bought for anyone with alot of mp3 songs or even cds!

The New Wave Of Sony D-NE710 ATRAC3/MP3 Disc Player!

(5 out of 5) by Roy Chan on May 13, 2003 (Long Beach, CA USA)
When I first starting looking at MP3 players, I was always very disappointed at how much money it was to expland your MP3 players memory. I was looking at around 100 bucks just to get about 490 music into one cd. I recently brought this wonderful player at Target and I was quite surprise it was one of the first ATRAC3 MP3 cd player. What a great idea for Sony. You get over 490 music on one cd and the cds only cost about 6 cents a piece. I've been a strong believer in sony discmans ever since the Sony D-CJ01 came out. I replace my d-cj01 to this ATRAC3/MP3, which deliever far better sound and style. Sony put their D-NE710 ATRAC3 MP3 cd player on the market and this discman really lives up to sony quality. Now you get Sony's long lasting battery life, 2 different levels or ATRAC3 and MP3 play back. The two different ATRAC3 settings give you these two choices: 1 small buffer and higher quality of music, and 2 large buffer and lower quality music. I have yet to hear the difference in the two qualities. While running the ATRAC3 proved to be better than my previous sony discmans the D-CJ01 and the DEJ62. I have yet to hear this ATRAC3 skip while playing MP3 cds. It's been dropped, dragged, smashed but the player keeps on going. One of the coolest features of the ATRAC3 cd is that the cd itself stops after about 10 seconds of spinning and doesn't start up again for another minute and a half. Making it impossible to skip during that time and also impresses your friends. Sony's ATRAC3 lets you listen to about 72 hours of normal music and about 48 hours of MP3 format music give or take depending on the batteries you are using. Rechargable batteries have significantly lower battery times. This CD player shows next generation Sony quality. I'm glad I waited for sony to come out with a ATRAC3 cd player. A must BUY!

Great player, not-great software

(4 out of 5) by Susan B on Jan 8, 2005 (NY USA)
I've had this CD player for a year and it works great. ATRAC3 is great - the sound is great and I can fit around 20 regular CDs onto one Atrac3 disc. The down side is the software. The first time I used it, it crashed, and it can take 2-3 hours to make one CD, be it from CDs or an MP3 collection, and some tracks don't write - and you don't find out until AFTER writing the CD. I didn't like how only MP3s can be converted to ATRAC3, as I have several WMAs. The software is frustrating because of the crashing and not writing tracks. If ATRAC3 doesn't interest you, this CD player can also play MP3 CDs and regular CDs too.

The CD player itself is great. It has a long battery life. One set of batteries lasted through a two-week vacation with constant play and more (and 3 ATRAC3 CDs was much lighter than a giant case with all my music). I've dropped it and it continues playing and doesn't skip. The sound isn't as loud as other players, but I don't like to damage my ears so it's fine for me.

The CD player is great and I reccommend it, but Sony needs to improve their SonicStage software. Otherwise, this is a good purchase.
