Great Value, Great Picture

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on May 17, 2003
I had never owned a flat-screen tv before, so I decided to take a chance on this one. I am very glad I did. Picture is very crisp and clear, sound is excellent. And you can't beat the price. It was very easy to set up, and the remote is pretty well laid out. There was a high-pitch squeal that came out of the back of the set, but that went away after the first few minutes of use and never came back. The front is a silver color, so it might stick out a little from the rest of your furniture. I would definitely recommend this television, especially at its current price...

Not worth it...

(2 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Mar 6, 2003
While shopping for a new 20" TV, I originally purchased this one because of its good looks and extra features (including flat screen) that the more established brands at this price point lacked. I decided I'd give it a chance. It was a mistake.

After bringing it home, I found that the screen showed faint horizontal lines moving across it while hooked up to my DVD player...not too noticable, but annoying for a brand new TV with a supposedly premium picture. The speaker quality was poor, and the volume needed to be turned up quite a bit to be reasonably audible, a problem made worse by the remote control which only worked when pointed head-on at the TV.

I then heard a crackling noise coming from the speakers, which would sometimes become so loud as to cancel out what was on TV. I realized that it varied when I moved around near the TV, as if it were some sort of interference. Upon turning the volume way up, I heard the faint sound of a radio station. This was not due to an antenna, as there was none.

It was at this point that I decided to return the TV, and exchanged it ... No horizontal lines, no radio interference, much better picture and sound quality. And while it's not flat, the screen seems to be much less bulbous than most. It was well worth giving up a few minor features. The moral of the story: You do, in fact, get what you pay for.

TV died soon after arrival -- warranty seems bogus

(1 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Sep 18, 2003
This might be a decent TV set if it works at all, but it's not a sensible or safe purchase.

Mine worked adequately for a few days and then failed. It has now been four weeks and it still functions only as a paperweight. Although Amazon advertises this product as having an in-home warranty, you should be aware that the support may be of no value whatsoever. Jensen has only recently begun selling TV sets and does not have a functioning service network for them. Although they say that they have been trying to find a service provider in the Washington DC metro area, they have been unable (unwilling?) to do so over several weeks. Verifying this with an independent service tech, I've been told that many parts are available only from Jensen. The only warranty contact information provided is a telephone number for a voicemail box and an address. which seems to be a drop-box for a company in British Columbia, Canada. It is EXTREMELY difficult to get them to return phone calls. The first sign of life came one week after I began sending emails and leaving messages. The Jensen parent website reveals no contact mechanism at all. If you poke around the internet, it turns out that Jensen has become Recoton in FL, with an email address that returns all mail as undeliverable.

For [$], why not?

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jun 12, 2003
I've had this tv for over a month now and have not run into any real problems. I did experience the low buzzing noise that others noticed, but after a couple of days it stopped completely (or maybe I stopped noticing). It is my first flat screen, so I have nothing else to compare it to, but in my opinion, for the [$] bucks it is more than satisfactory. It's volume is not the greatest even at its highest, but I was never planning on busting my ear drums or the little tv speakers anyway. I'll probably hook some speakers to it. The picture is of good quality, I think, and my video games come out pretty nice. All in all, a good buy.

Good Stuff

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Apr 17, 2003
Perfect picture quality and works really well. The picture is sharp and looks good through my component video cables into my panasonic DVD player. The size of it is not too over bearing and the sound quality is very defined. The remote is basic, but can act as a universal remote for the dvd player of your vcr if you are in a pinch. Lots of inputs, the only downside is no stereo audio out, just headphone out. Has v-chip and is simple setup. Looks like a wega, good stuff, BUY THIS!
