Looking for LAN? Look no farther.

This piece of hardware is perfect for a medium size LAN party. Works incredibly well, and I had no problems setting it up. Rather than trying to hook up numerious hubs to routers and having to troubleshoot the connections and finding that faulty port, just plug directly into this baby. While it does require longer cat-5 cables, just make your own 100ft-ers, its the easiest thing to do. With the 16 port switch, you can plug directly into it, and then also connect your router if needed, and the occassional sattilite hub. Works great and makes those LAN parties a cinch.

Great Switch!

This has been a great switch for our home network. No problems whatsoever in the last 3 years. I've been using all 16 ports for the last year or so, my only regret is not getting the 24 port model!

Prone to port failure?

(3 out of 5) by Dean Siewert on Mar 9, 2009 (Madison, WI United States)
I've owned this unit for about two years. It has performed well except at this time, there are two ports that appear to have died. They show constant activity even though nothing is plugged into them. While these are in this "run-away" mode, the whole switch is impacted. I've been able to solve the problem by plugging a unconnected network cable into both the malfunctioning ports. This isn't quite right. It is ok since I'm not counting on using all the ports but a unit like this should really run without issues for many years.

Perfect Solution

I have had this product for about a couple days now, and I have nothing but positive feedback for this switch. I originally ran out of ports on the back of my wireless routers, so I needed a switch to add some more ports. Simply plugged it in to a port on the wireless router, and plugged my other ports and worked like a charm. Had no latency problems or speed loss and actually somewhat noticed speed gains compared to the speeds I got when I was plugged directly into the router. I have 2 xboxs and I instantly was able to see them from my wireless pc and videos from my wireless pc streamed perfectly to my xbox behind the switch.

No configuration needed, the only problem I had was when i tried to mount it on the mounting holes on the back of the unit. They were shallow and when I forced it, due to frustration, I heard a click but everything worked ok. Im not sure about how it would work if you plugged a modem directly into it but im pretty sure you would need a router for sharing the modem, then add the switch behind the router and your done. Great Product :)
