Apparently a high percentage of defects in this model.

Like another reviewer, we received two defective models. Unlike her, we never got to find out what the CD player sounds like. The radio sounded pretty good for the price and I suspect that the CD would have likewise, but we couldn't get either unit to perform as a CD player.

Worse, the division of G.E. responsible for this model has abysmal customer support. They refuse to provide a telephone number and expect users to hand over street address and telephone information on their website in a "we'll get back to you at our convenience" online form. As it turned out, the units really were defective; but what if I'd just forgotten to press a particular button, which a CS rep could have helped me resolve on the phone and avoided a return? This, plus the quality of the product itself, means I won't likely be buying a G.E. item anytime soon, unless it has copious glowing reviews here and elsewhere.

By contrast, Amazon was very helpful with providing a replacment when the first unit proved defective and in sending return labels for both when the second turned out to be faulty as well. I'll be picking another undercabinet model soon, just not another G.E. What a P.I.A.!

We are on our third reorder!

I was very impressed with this players sound quality. I also loved the added feature of the under-counter light. However, both our first and second unit stopped working after about 3 days. The clock stopped functioning and all switches led to radio sound, meaning one could no longer play a cd. My husband is wondering if it is a design flaw due to the fact that the unit gets quite hot if the counter light is left on. I'm willing to try it one more time, but if number 3 is a dud, I'd wait for a redesign.

Nice sound and features

The CD player is not as versatile as it might be, but everything else on this radio works well and the sound is pretty good. (I'm no audiophile.) The light (with two levels) is a nice plus. This is much better than the radio that this replaced in my kitchen. We've had it for quite a few months now and have no complaints.

Defective

(1 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jan 4, 2004
My husband got me this for Christmas since I love listening to music. However, the volume on it started randomly changing all on its' own within a day of use. Fearing a short, we exchanged it for another one. The display on the new one stopped working by the end of the first day. The next day, the volume started messing up again! We returned it and will not be buying another one of this brand.

Do not purchase this item

We are on our third GE/CD player and it will not work consistently. The CD often skips or does not play at all, or plays nicely for a couple of songs and then skips or stops. The radio and remote work nicely, it is the cd feature that we have found flawed.
