VTech 5831 Expandable Phone

(5 out of 5) by Thumper on Jun 26, 2009 (Florida)
This phone, with 4 satellite phones, comprise the phone system in my home. What amazes me most about this setup is that it is totally compatible (answering machine, call-forwarding - all the features) with my Lingo VoIP setup! Apparently not many phones on VoIP will turn on the flashing "Message Alert" indicator...gotta love it. Crystal clear, even on VoIP, and no functionality problems. Except - I DO wish there was a way to synchronize the phone books on the satellites and the base station - boy, do I wish!!

vtech 5831 base and vtech 5820 handsets

We had a 2pc vtech phone system but wanted more flexability. So, in looking for such a set we stopped at a rummage sale and found this set at a very reasonable cost. These are advertised as 5.8ghz base and handsets. What this means is that the company can't advertise them as 5.8 if they are 2.4! If they're 2.4 then they'd have to ad them as such. So, guys get off the 2.4 and remember this.
So far wife and I have owned these only a few days and are very happy with these. Interference? What interference? We bought these without setup manual and have had no problem setting them up.
I've an MajicJack hooked up to my pc and use it with this with total reliability. If asked to describe this unit it would be in one word FABULOUS!!!

VTech 5831 5.8 GHZ cordless phone

(4 out of 5) by W. Sellars on Jan 7, 2009 (Arizonia)
This is the second time that I have purchased this phone system over the last 10 years.
The original handset for the phone started having issues with the off button sticking, so I need to replace. This is used for business and gets an extensive workout. It has never interfered with my wireless router, be it the old g style or the new N style.
Having the base as a stand alone dialing unit was also great as I could dial or hang up from this unit as well. I would highly recommend this phone manufacture and especially their 5.8 GHz platform.

VTEC 5,8 Cordless Phone

Great product! Easy to use, and loads of features. I think the quality at least matches that of the name-brand phones I've purchased. Yes, I would recommend this phone to my friends!

Got it right first time.
