It Has Direct-Disc Access Capability!
(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Nov 28, 2002Contrary to the editorial review which states, "And because there's no direct-disc access from the remote, you must hit "disc skip" repeatedly to go from disc one to disc five", this player does have this feature. To accomplish this function, you must perform a 2-buttons combination move by pressing the "Disc Skip" button and then immediately press the numeric button corresponding to the disc you want to access.
This player is nice and capable except for the weaknesses in the MP3 area that have been mentioned in the previous reviews. And also I have to agree that the remote could have been designed better.

Best value for the price.
(5 out of 5) by Hsiang-ming Wang on Nov 20, 2002 (Columbus, OH USA)This is not a top-notch DVD player. But it is definately a DVD/CD/VCD/MP3 player that worth more than it costs. Other than all the features listed in the description. I found a few more features that are great to have.
1. Other than the optical digital (You can connect by either fiber-optic(toslink) or coaxial cable), there are also two analog output for audio only. These comes in handy when you want to connect to a different port on your receiver/amplifier when playing CD.
2. There is a 6X zoom that will allow you to easily convert a widescreen movie to a fullscreen. If you don't have a widescreen/huge TV like me, this makes the character larger and avoid the black box on top and bottom of the screen.
3. There is quick search/fast foward from 2X to 100X and slow motion down to 1/16X, very neat.
Most of the major downside are described by others. Things like no direct disk selection, slow in disk switching, no MP3 random play, small buttons on remote etc. But for me, I do think nothing beat this player in the price range.

DVD/Audio CD ok but MP3 playback is bad

I just bought this DVD player last week and I was too excited to recieve my package. It didn't take me much time to hook the device to my TV and it was fully functional within 10 minutes. I started testing it with DVD and it ran fine (obviously). Then I switched to Audio CD, but unfortunately, it gave me 'disc error'. I insterted another Audio CD and it ran fine. Then I tested it with MP3 CD and it performed horribly. It stops at every MP3 song. Rarely played 2-3 songs from the list. So then I went through the manual for MP3 guidelines. It has so many limitations that I am totally disappointed by this player. Seriously advise buyers to first check its performance at best buy or circuit city and then decide..

A good DVD, a good MP3 player
(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Nov 18, 2002I installed the SD2805 last night and dashed back to my computer to burn a 147-song CD to test the MP3 player part of the equipment. The results were very good. Not only is this piece of equipment able to deliver excellent DVD playing and functionality, but it does very well when playing well recorded MP3. If the MP3 quality is avergare you will be satisfied. If the original quality (bit rate) is high, you very well may be astonished. Highly remmended for the price and value.

Toshiba is getting each time better
(4 out of 5) by Fabio Soares on Oct 15, 2002 (Brazil)Nowadays every DVD player is playing CD, MP3 and all sort of things as well. This is not different, it plays all this formats but it has a 5 disc carousel and a astonishing picture quality.
This means you can go forward or rewind and it shows you a good quality. Its sound is very good also, and a great vantage in this product is to avoid that lousy web of wires.
Also, I have found it best to have 3 CD and 2 DVDs inside of it, because you can listen to very good music and also have the two movies you most love just at the distance of your fingers.
Also the equalizer is another strong point that I have found. It has good ways to balance the sound and when we want to hear a CD or see a good DVD movie, sound is surely one of the most important items. The sound settings are easy to adjust and they sound very good.
At last I would like to state that its design has a very inspired and artistic conception. I looked very well in my apartment and I believe it can also be that so good looking in any other room. I say that because nowadays is a bit difficult to find something to our house with so much possiblities of being ok. Surely, whoever buy this one, won't regret
