Great for the price

For the low price, this is an excellent tripod. The main drawbacks of this tripod are the lack of an anchor for a bag, somewhat jerky panning, a less precise leveler (it is a circle with a dot in the middle), and the many plastic parts.

I use my tripod with my Canon PowerShot Pro Series S5 IS 8.0MP Digital Camera with 12x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and it always feels sturdy. Even without a bag, this tripod should be able to handle most cameras, and the rubber feet on the bottom have excellent grip. The legs are metal, but most of the parts of plastic. Despite the shipping weight listed (4 lb), this tripod weighs under 3 lb. The current listed weight is 2.6 lb and when I weighed it I got 2.8 lb. I find it pretty light and easy to take with me, and the plastic is of good quality and very sturdy.

The panning isn't super smooth, but unless you need really smooth panning for high quality videos, you probably won't notice any problems. The dot-style leveler also isn't perfect, but it should be fine for eyeballing to make sure that you are not tilting badly. The quick-release head is very handy, and is a feature not always found on cheaper tripods. All in all, for the low price, this is a great tripod and I would purchase it again.

travel tripod, can work with your SLRs

(3 out of 5) by Silent Reviewer on Apr 17, 2009 (Fremont, CA USA)
I needed a travel size tripod for my D200 and my Sony point and shoot. I know this is not like those professional type expensive ones.. No. But this is very casual and easy to use. Of course there are lot of restrictions and limited functionality as to the usage. It wont work as a ballhead tripod if you have used one, but this is good for casual travel type requirements. I used it in my trip to Mexico and Italy. Sometimes I found it really not working as I need, but then its only 30 usd vs a 600 usd one.

Smooth axis and panning

(4 out of 5) by James C. Kelley on Apr 15, 2009 (PA, USA)
For a cheap tripod, the pan and tilt are very smooth. Wanna complain? Buy a $20 tripod from Walmart and try to pan smoothly with it. Wanna moan? Buy a pro tripod for a couple bills and moan about how thin your wallet has become.

This tripod is a good value, smooth operating - a step up from the junk tripods that are too short, too fragile and too jumpy. I gave it four stars instead of five only because there are better tripods out there if you want to spend four or five times the money.

Not bad for the money

(4 out of 5) by Sneeferson on Feb 5, 2009
I bought this from a store in Thailand years ago, no idea what it cost me but it wasn't expensive.

I used it for over a year with a Nikon D70 with 18-70mm Lens, shooting clothing for catalogs. It faired ok considering it's plastic pretty much everywhere.

The problem with it is the weight, the weight currently on Amazon is wrong, it shows 1lb when it should show closer to 2.6lbs.

My summary, nice tripod for digital cameras, but for DSLR get a gitzo.

No way on earth i would use this for a video camera that was not some micro version either.

Good for the dollar's worth

I was looking for a tripod for my Sony Handycam. This tripod is great it has a lot of features and I was scared of the quality but knowing it was coming from sony was more of a relief for me. Sony didn't prove me wrong in their standards and for the price this tripod is definitely worth it if you want a tripod that does the job. I read one review and someone says that the tripod doesn't go that high, but I think it goes very high and you can adjust it to the height you want it at. My only issue with it is that I wish it came with a cover or bag for it, and I would have paid a couple more bucks for it, so for the price I can't really complain. Overall I would definitely reccomend this tripod.
