Good volume, bass hinders cds

(3 out of 5) by D. Chang on Aug 17, 2005 (DC)
I bought this thing a year ago to listen to at work. I work in a very large space and wanted to hear music in every corner of the place, and this unit does an excellent job with overall volume. The major drawback of this is with the subwoofer on, it vibrates the entire thing, causing the CD to skip. If you want to listen to just the radio or cassettes, this is an okay unit, but the G500, the newer version, is miles above in technology and I would expect this unit to be out of production soon.

Poor quality unit

(1 out of 5) by james on May 24, 2004 (colorado)
CD player malfunctioned after minimal use and Sony will not stand behind their product. Sound was very good, but what good is it if the CD player malfunctions with minimal use. Multiple other owners of Sony BoomBoxes have reported similar problems. Bottom line, Sony is poor quality and does not stand behind their product.

Includes a real subwoofer, but FM has no selectivity

(4 out of 5) by RicR2 on Mar 6, 2004 (McLean, VA USA)
I agree with the prior reviewers that this has "great sound," and (for a boombox) great weight.

MINUSES: The FM tuner, in stereo, has competitive sensitivity but compared to my JVC (RM-SACBM5J) boombox very poor selectivity. The display is small and hard to read (which for some applications is trivial). Were it not for the FM tuner I would have rated this 5 stars.

PLUSSES: The subwoofer produces genuine subwoofer bass (as comparison, I have subwoofers in two of my cars), the highs are clear, and remarkably with the subwoofer at max power (choices are: Off, 1, 2) the batteries last 30+ hours at volume loud enough for a swimming pool (where I use 2 of the 4 CFD-G70s that I own.)

Good overall

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Sep 18, 2003
Very good box with great sound. This boombox is designed to be played loud, the woofer kicks in at higher volumes, and reproduces low frequencies well and clean. Great to have a line-in input, this works great with portable MP3 players. A little on the heavy side. Excellent value.

Sony CFD-G70

(5 out of 5) by John on Aug 20, 2003 (Bay City, MI United States)
Sounds great but is not as small as listed on the Sony website. Actual dimensions are 20-7/8 by 7-3/4 by 13-1/2 inches. (WxHxD) It is one of two boomboxes I was able to find that include an auxilliary input jack. Great for connecting a DVD player or computer when camping. Also, comes with a built-in subwoofer. The other is a Philips model but this one sounds a whole lot better. Plays CD-R/CD-RWs too!
