Excellent Case with Excellent Power Supply

(5 out of 5) by EdBob on Mar 31, 2003 (Texas, United States)
Antec has built a quality case and power supply. Well engineered screwless drive mounting system, for the four external 5.25 drives, with high quality construction (no sharp edges to cut your hands). It also has 2 external 3.5 in. bays and 2 internal 3.5 in. bays built into a single latch removable tray.

It is Bronze not Black and the standard beige bezels on the drives look fine with the Bronze. High quality wiring for the 2 front USB connectors and the 4 front LED's. LED's = 1 power, 1 HD activity and 2 spares you can use for other drives.

High quality 300 watt Power Supply is the best I have had, variable speed power supply fan is controlled by PS temp. and it has fan sensor wires to monitor fan speed. Very quiet and is running my Intel 2.4, 2 CDRW's, 3 harddrives, Panaflow case fan, modem and additional drive controller without any problems. Something my last generic 400 watt ps would not do.

Excellent product - minor concern

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Mar 19, 2003
This is my second ANTEC SLK2600AMG case. The first cost a lot more at a retailer. Other than color (metallic bronze is not really black), the case and power supply are outstanding and quiet - very quiet. The power supply is virtually silent and you have to add all the noise yourself with other parts.

I used the case to replace a home built computer that was sounding like a jet taking off. I had used the first case to build a computer from new parts and it is as quiet as the best Dell Optiplex. I did not achieve the same silent running on this computer since the old CPU fan is not as quiet as a new P4 one. I also dampened the case fan since it was not a new variable speed one. I moved the computer off the floor and onto the desk and the low nise level is quite tolerable.

The mounting for 5 1/2 drives is unique but it is extremely quick and easy (30 seconds with no screws) and appears quite stable. Everything is solid and well built.

Minor concerns:
the front USB connectors contain 6 separated pins each and are hard to maneuver around.
the case does not have a removable backplate and you have to install the MB inside the case.

I ordered the case on March 14 and it arrived on March 18. Very nice.

Best case for the money

(5 out of 5) by Edward Dotson on Jun 20, 2004 (north Texas)
I did not buy my case from Amazon(more's the pity, could have saved some cash). This is an excellent case however. Well made, well designed and attractive. I especially like the door that covers the drive bays. Please note that the front USB ports wiring have 10 separate leads(a pain for my short fat fingers). For an excellent case at a reasonable price, I don't think you can go wrong. If you do buy the case be sure to order two 80MM fans at the same time. No fans in the case.

Excellent case, nice bang for the buck!

(5 out of 5) by VKon81 on May 21, 2003 (San Jose, Ca USA)
Excellent case in my opinion. I especially like its fairly small size, as a lot of server class cases are just too big and awkward for daily use. I added two 80mm fans, one in front and one in the back for some extra cooling, works excellent at cooling the hard drive which heated up quiet a bit without the fans.
Although the color is not black it still looks great and has a nice finish to it. Few things i I found a little odd were lack of support for some motherboard scrwes on my ATX Abit BH-7, and also to connect the front USB there isn't a standard plug but about 5 individual pins which I had to connect one by one for each one of the 2 front USB plugs.
Still overall this case looks great has a nice power supply which doesn't make too much noise, and has enough room to acomplish any day to day tasks.

Very high quality case

(5 out of 5) by M. Hester on Jan 30, 2004 (Tuscumbia, Alabama USA)
I was very impressed with the quality. It has a sturdy steel frame, beautiful metallic finish, and all the bells and whistles that make installing components easy.
One note on the finish - it says bronze but it is really a nice gun metal silver/metallic, very attractive. I was afraid of the "bronze" color but once I got the case I love the finish.
I had purchased a PowerMax case from another site but when it arrived it had a big dent in the top from shipping. The case was the normal flimsy thin metal not like the thicker steel of the Antec case. I sent the PowerMax case back and ordered the Antec case. I am very pleased. You can tell the difference in quality.
I have not installed all my components yet but I am looking forward to the quietness of this case that other reviewers have mentioned. I have two stealth 80mm fans to install - that combined with the quiet power supply should keep down on the noise.
