Great Speakers for the Money!

Aug 1, 2003 - By Christopher Behrens (St. Louis, MO United States)

I just hooked these speakers up to my PC and I'm extremely surprised at how well these speakers perform given their price. They have surprisingly crisp high end detail for using full range drivers and the subwoofer is very capable for use with games and MP3s. Also, the speakers look great, are easy to hook up, and like others, I think the cobalt blue LED is cool.

Obviously these speakers don't compare to a high-quality subwoofer paired to floorstanding speakers using a seperate woofer/tweeter layout. But for under $$$, these speakers perform very well.

I noticed that the subwoofer is crossed over at a high frequency, which means a lot of the music and voices come from the subwoofer instead of the L/R speakers. This is done because the small L/R speakers can only go so low. This causes you to "notice" the subwoofer too much (a good subwoofer is blended so well that you don't even know it's there). To help reduce this effect, I moved the subwoofer under my desk into the corner, obstructed by my computer.

I also noticed that at my first placement of the subwoofer, the bass sounded kind of crumby. When I moved the subwoofer into the corner, it sounded one-hundred times better. By placing the subwoofer in a corner, you gain 6dB of SPL (every surface you put a subwoofer by gains 3dB or doubles the volume). Moving it into the corner also made the perceived bass sound deeper.

Overall, I'm very pleasently surprised and happy with these speakers and would highly recommend them.

Excellent Sound, Great Performance, Don't Spend Big Bucks!

Apr 6, 2003 - By Amazon Customer

These speakers sound AWESOME. I crank them up loud and play them on my PowerMac using iTunes w/o distortion or any adverse effect. With an adjustment to the bass setting on the sub to your taste your all set! Also, I find that using an equalizer in an MP3 player as a preamp to boost volume levels works very well with these speakers.

I had a pair of Monsoon speakers before and they had lots of crackling and interference so I threw them out. They always had a 'humm' and poped when I turned on my computer etc. I paid [a lot] for them and they were JUNK. I spent considerably less on the Logitech system and am absolutely thrilled with them!

I have been very satisfied with the Logitech speakers. They give good frequency respose throughout the entire range and have a good natural sound. They would be a complement to any system: PC or Mac. I have listened to many speakers at the store and liked the neutral, balanced sound that the Logitech system offered the best. It is a good clean sound. I also play lots of games and fly flight sims and they perform very well for those tasks as well. They are an all around great speaker system.

When I set out to buy a new set of speakers for my system I was adamant about spending [a certain amount] on a set of computer speakers. Good news! You don't have to--and you can get great sound at the same time. You won't find any better speakers for the price. Guaranteed.

Spectacular!

Sep 17, 2003 - By Gene Quagmire (Ypsilanti, MI United States)

These speakers are an AWESOME value. They sound awesome, especially with a well coded, bass heavy mp3. I can't recommend these enough for the price.

Several years into their lifespan, they have started to degrade a little though. I only paid like 30 bucks for them, though, so I can't complain.

Good Speakers for the Money

Jun 26, 2005 - By Derek White (Orem, Utah United States)

I wouldn't consider these high-end speakers, but I've been more than satisfied with them. I've had mine now for a year and a half. They are perfectly adequate, good-sounding speakers. In fact, Logitech's entire line of speakers, in my opinion, are the best-sounding computer speakers available.

Versatile and Pretty damn good

Apr 17, 2005 - By Youssef J. Habbouche (MA, USA)

I have had these speakers for 9 months. I bought them after extensively reading reviews. The Logitech Z-340 are the best choice in their price range. They are not high-end speakers but provide a surprisingly clear crisp sound across different ranges; a true all around speaker set. You will enjoy the subwoofer for gaming or movie watching.

What I like:
- Low price
- Easy to install
- Great sound even at higher volumes
- Solid construction
- No hissing or cracking noise when powered (cheap PC speakers are usually noisy)
- Small foot print for the 2 small speakers
- Subwoofer for an extra bass sound from time to time
- Bass adjustment button on the subwoofer
- The blue LED light is cool in the dark

Downsides:
- The blue LED light can be excessively bright. Depending on the angle you are looking from, it can blind your eye. Make sure you move it away from your side vision when using your computer.
- The bass adjustment button is on the back of the subwoofer, therefore less accessible
