Awesome microphone, recommend use of a stand.

(5 out of 5) by Stephen E. Gideon on Dec 20, 2007 (Maumelle, AR USA)
This is an EXCELLENT mic. I use this paired with a Olympus VN-4100PC Digital Voice Recorder. The cord which comes with this has a fabric shroud, which picks up noise, so it's not used. The Mic is very sensitive, and I use it with a Cell Phone Holder (Car type with a suction cup) as a Microphone stand. The clarity of the Mic is very good, it's used to record Podcasts with guest speakers as part of a mobile studio setup. Highly recommended!

Great little stereo microphone

(5 out of 5) by L. Batchelder on Apr 6, 2009
I am a musician and own my own studio in Nashville, TN. I have thousands of dollars worth of microphones. This product is what it is and for the money is a brilliant little microphone. Even though I have a 250 track digital recording studio, sometimes I want to record without doing a major "studio" setup. I bought a Boss Micro BR and this mic to go with it. This is a fantastic combination. The sound is definitely studio quality. I did a location recording of a simple trumpet and piano. Rather than drag my whole set up I took the Micro BR and this mic and made a very fine sounding recording. I got a pair of windscreens that were made for a telephone headset. I put one over each side of this mic and never take them off. This mic does have its limitations and does not sound as good as my $650 studio vocal mic for sure, but that's not what it is intended for. This is for portability with clear crisp sound. With a Micro BR it's a phenomenal combination. I almost didn't buy the Micro BR because it only has a mono on board mic, but I ordered this mic to go with it and I'm so glad I did. This magic combo is a serious upgrade from a Zoom H2 or H4 and for less money - go figure. Sony - well done.

Perfect Match for Sony MD Recorders

(5 out of 5) by K. Wilson on Aug 20, 2006 (SAN DIEGO, CA United States)
I bought the DS70P as a companion to my Sony MZ-R30 MD Recorder. I use it primarily for sound recording at wedding ceremonies. As a videographer, I normally use the recorder for backup audio, but the sound quality is so rich with this mic, that I have started using it as the primary sound source for the wedding video.

It is small enough to conceal in the wedding arch, but robust enough to provide rich, high quality sound suitable for a professional video production.

The only 'con' I found was the lack of a windscreen. A small breeze can ruin the recording and the unusual design is hard to fit generic windscreens. I had to use two little lavalier windscreens to get by in these situations.

The 'plug in power' feature is nice and doesn't seem to affect the recorders battery life much.

Even with the lack of a suitable windscreen, I give it 5 stars.

Fabulous microphone for the money.

(5 out of 5) by S. Stanley on May 15, 2007 (Denver, CO USA)
I have several of these now for people in my company. We especially use them for recording to SONY Mini discs. They deliver unbelievable quality (for the money) in that application--and others. As noted in other reviews here, however, be aware that the mic is very sensitive. If you don't want a superb mic that is sensitive, you don't want this one.

This is one of those products that comes along every now and then where the designers just got tons of things right. Also as noted elsewhere here, this MIC will do you NO good unless you have a device that has powered mic jack (plug-n-power). The GREAT thing about that, as long as you do have such a device and jack for this, is that you don't ever have to worry if your battery is about out on your mic and will drop out in the middle of recording something.

In addition to many things, I'm sure, this MIC works great with Sony Mini disc recorders, some (likely all) Sony Voice Recorders (really improves the quality of what those can do), Edirol RU 9, Ederil UA-1ex, etc. I think all higher end Olympus voice recorders also use this type of powered mic jack.

Great mic at great price. It comes with a cloth/coated extension cord that can be moved noisely. Obvious, you want to use that extension anytime the device you are plugging it into creates it's own mechanical noises (like a Mini Disc recorder).

Excellent Microphone

(5 out of 5) by Uilleann Piper on Aug 9, 2005
Microphone works very well. Cable allows getting the mic away from the minidisk player noise, in quiet areas, and in noisy areas, it's simple to just plug the mic body straight into the player. Very Happy with the mic. Haven't tested stereo separation, but for my needs (recording music sessions and classes) it works wonderfully.
