Great first vidoe camera

(5 out of 5) by Eric Scott on Nov 27, 2002 (Fort Lauderdale, FL USA)
My daughter (9) received one of these, and she's crazy about it. Don't expect zooms or a LCD viewfinder. BUT, the camera is adequate and actually good for the price, and it comes with a USB interface, so it's plug-and-play. What's really great about this camera is the software that comes with it. With no previous exposure to editing software at all, within a few hours Elizabeth was producing great video presentations complete with wipes, fades, voice-overs, special effects, backgroud music, and really, it was fun watching her show.

I wish my pro-editing software was a easy to use as hers (perhaps I'll steal it).

Best $100 you can invest for your children

(5 out of 5) by E. Ragan on Jun 7, 2004 (NJ USA)
I bought this product for my 9 and 11 year old children two years ago for Christmas, and I must say, it has been their favorite toy ever since. The software that comes with it is easy to use and enables the youngsters to really explore the basics of film. You would be amazed at the level of content that they are able to produce for only $100. The quality of film is so-so, but it's a real bargain compared to high-end digital camcorders that go for thousands. Besides, you wouldn't let your 11 year old kid use the family camcorder anyway. This is a great, economical product that your children will have fun with all year 'round.

The fun doesn't last

(5 out of 5) by K. Peterson on Nov 13, 2003 (Herndon, VA United States)
My daughter (10 1/2) made a couple of cute movies with her friends, but she soon became bored with the limited features available. The images take up a lot of memory on my computer, and they take forever to copy to disk for some reason. We bought this last year just after Intel stopped supporting it, so there was no technical assistance and we couldn't access any online clips. Digital Blue made my daughter interested in doing more - she even joined the TV news team at her school. But it just collects dust at this point.

Fun! My kids are actually playing together

(5 out of 5) by B. Phillips on Apr 3, 2003 (sooner country)
This camera/toy is a really cool toy and I highly recommend it for any child over 7 to about 14 years of age. It allows you to take video and digital pictures of about 4 minutes in duration before having to load it onto the computer. Now, the resolution is not that great and the memory of the device is limited to what you can store directly on it; so don't buy it thinking you are going to have a great quality video or digital picture - it's a toy! The fun part is the software that allows you to video edit what you have recorded. You can also add in scenes that have been prerecorded of all sorts of things (waterfalls, driving on a highway, etc. You can add in music, your own sound bytes, animated characters and all sorts of cool stuff. My kids - all 4 of them aged 10, 8, 6, and 4 have been playing together to make movies. They all absolutely love this toy. My 8 year old just got this for his birthday and he can barely remember to hold down the record button while recording, so I would not recommend for any younger than 7. The software is so easy to use. I had a lot of fun playing with it. Even our neighbor boy came over and played with it and now is getting one for his birthday. He is 12.

Balancing the good and bad

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jan 4, 2004
I recieved the Digital Blue Movie Creator for my birthday. It's a lot of fun, but I encountered a few small, and annoying repetitive problems. For the most part, I learned from them. A movie I made with a friend was too large to email. The pictures and videos that are recorded are pixelly. On the box, it looks like the videos are much better quality, but it's pretty good for a kid. I've only made one movie so far becuase I recieved it recently. It's worth the price. Also, you can only record a few min. of video when off the stand. You learn alot with it, and get a chance to use your imagination- and it's not for school! Over all I think that it's a great toy- there are just a few problems, that you can get over.
