Quite impressed

The image quality on this monitor is very nice.
Setup took about 5 minutes. Have the PC and Monitor off, connect cables, turn on monitor then PC.. done.. that's all that I had to do :)

There is an option for a wall mount if you are into that. You would have to get that separately though.

Not having a side to side swivel might be a bad point for some people out there, but it matters not at all to me.

Having both a DVI and an RGB connector, you can easily connect 2 computers to this monitor and toggle between them just switching between analog and digital.

Note: Any LCD will have a "native resolution" .. this is the resolution that everything will work best at for that monitor. I would suggest running your systems at that resolution.

As an avid gamer, I was concerned with ghosting and such going from a CRT to an LCD. I was pleasantly surprised that accept for some instances on first person shooter type games with real fast action, I did not notice any ghosting. Another thing to look for is color bleed on LCDs. I play several RPG and MMO games that have pretty graphics on them, and I was concerned that I might lose some of that sharp beauty. To date, I have not noticed any bleed and if anything... the graphics actually look sharper. That is more than likely tied to me playing at 1280x1024 on this 19" LCD as opposed to 1024x768 on a 17" CRT.

Note to CRT users going to an LCD: There is a huge savings in energy used and more importantly (to me) heat generation. The ambient temperature in my office went from 10 degrees warmer than the rest of the house to only about 3 degrees warmer (have 2 computers and replaced a 17" CRT).

One last note: To the person who was complaining about the monitor not going to 1600x1280... if you are looking for a 19" LCD that will do that, you need to quit looking in the middle and low ranges. You are looking at $1100 or more to get into a decent 19" LCD that can handle that resolution at this time.

Outstanding, indeed

Superior picture at an extremely good price for a 19 inch LCD monitor--in digital mode it is better than any CRT I have ever seen--extremely bright, clear and sharp. Blacks are deep, invisible blacks and whites are stunningly bright. No dead pixels. Speakers sound pretty good as monitor speakers go. Some minor minuses: auto picture adjust is slow (can be annoying if you use with a switch box/kvm to switch between computers), no documentation on cable hookup (had to play around to learn how to expose back panel cable inputs), back panel cable covers are akward and do not snap on securely.

Viewsonic VX900

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Apr 19, 2003
After doing a considerable amount of window shopping, I chose the Viewsonic VX900 to replace my faithful 19" Trinitron CRT. This bright LCD monitor reproduces very natural colors and opens up ALOT of space on my desk. I play a number of games on my computer and so it was important that the screen be fast enough to keep up with the action. When I first set the monitor up I had it connected through its analog port and noticed some ghosting when playing games. Later I hooked it up through its DVI port and the monitor showed very little lag. I have been using this monitor daily for 2 weeks now and have found no dead pixels. With Microsoft's Cleartype technology, text on this monitor looks every bit as dark and sharp as it did on my CRT. I've read that the built in speakers are a weak point of this monitor but I can't really comment on that since I chose not hook those up. Overall, I'm very pleased with the VX900 and would recommend it to anyone shopping for a 19" LCD. monitor.

AMAZING Functiong & Looking Device

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Apr 3, 2003
I bought this item 6 months ago. I also bought a Sony unit and compared these 2 screens to my DELL 21" CRT Monitor. This device is just unreal, Ghosting people talk about for fast movement even in many games is almost UNHEARD OF. Image clarity at any angle is terrific. Desk space saved is Fabulous. The look and design of this sleek Blk/Slvr unit is Gorgeous. I couldn't have asked for a better Flat screen. The images are as clear if not clearer than my HULK of a 21" monster CRT unit.

Viewsonic Knows their stuff and the designer was asked for input as this device is way cool looking! That's helps too!!
And finally the PRICE IS SOO RIGHT!!

WOW!

(5 out of 5) by Craig Callender on Mar 24, 2003 (Frederick, MD USA)
I got to say, this is got to be the best display on the market. I upgraded from an old 17" CRT, thinking that and 18" LCD was just a small upgrade, boy was I wrong. The amount of space you get compared to an 18" CRT is amazing.

Also, I use my computer as my entertainment system, so I watch DVDs, TV, and play video games all on this monitor. I don't even catch a hint of "ghosting", with this puppy's 25ms refresh rate. I'm even using the analog input!

Anyways, if you have the money to spare, this is a monitor for you. If you're thinking you want something a bit cheaper, go with the VX700, this monitor's 17" sister. With the amount of space I have, I could easily have been happy with the 17".
