While VX900 have the best spec but image and feature...

I have been using only Viewsonic monitor for the last 6 years: PT770, and PT775. I was happy about the image quality so I bought a Viewsonic again.

Most people seem to know the advantage of the monitor pretty well. I agree, the image is great. But, it is not close from prefect.

Let's concentrate on the weakness of the monitor. So, fellow shopper can get the whole story.

The "Auto image adjust" is terribly slow. Using analog input, it takes anywhere between 5-10 sec for a image to display if you change the resolution. During the 5-10 sec, the screen is totally dark.

When you're trying to change the screen resolution in Windows, you must press "OK" within 15 sec. It is not unusal that miss the reminding 5 sec before windows fall-back to your old setting. It is extremely anonying if you use a KVM, if you reboot a lot, and if you often try to get into BIOS setup from time to time. (I tried it on at least 4 video cards, all take long time. The problem is definitely not with my video singal.)

Sometimes, you need to do "auto image adjust" twice to get the a shape picture.

With digital mode (DVI), it still take 3 to 5 sec.

My friend samsug 19" LCD, bought recently, pop up immediately when the resolution is changed. (both analogy and DVI mode)

My brother's NEC 15" (NEC 1545M) which is bought 3 years ago doesn't have anonying delay either. It takes about a second for a resolution change.

My sister's got no-brand 15" LCD, the same, it takes about a second. You can manually trigger the auto adjust.

So funny that Viewsonic is the only one who market the "auto image adjust" feature. It either mean their marketing department become totally shameless lately. Or, their other model is even worse about resolution change, so they want people know they have improved on that.

On the other hand, the image on VX900 is in fact over saturated. It is hard to do photo editing. I tried the e-color software that come with the LCD, it didn't help the over saturted situation. The blood red, and skin tone is not reproduced very convincingly.

NEC 1545M has the best color reproduction I ever saw on any LCD monitor. Picture is well saturated and very accurate without overly done. Certainly, it is harder to make a 19" than a 15".

While VX900 have the best spec but image and feature definitely have plenty of room for improvement.

Thank You Viewsonic ......

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Aug 1, 2002
Well, I was ready to be disappointed based on my previous experience with an Envision 17" Flat Panel, but thank you Viewsonic. You have restored my faith in LCD's. Using the VX900's digital connection I was pleasantly surprised to find it as sharp, if not sharper than my old 21" CRT and NO dead pixels (yeah!). Text looks very crisp and actually looks great without turning on Microsoft's Cleartype Font Smoothing. Brightness is definitely not a problem. I actually had to turn down the brightness settings because the whites were "snow blinding" me. DVD Playback is also excellent and ghosting is at a minimum primarily due to the fast response time this display has...a true 25 milliseconds. As far as the built-in speakers go, I haven't used them, so I will not comment. Regarding general setup, the VX900 came with all the required cables for hookup using either an Analog or Digital video signal. And for icing on the cake, the VX900's silver and black case is one of the coolest I have ever seen. Very stylish. It will dress-up any desk you place it on.

A wonderful display!

I've held off getting a LCD monitor for several years because of the higher price and more importantly the slower response rates of LCD screens (I'm a avid gamer). I took the plunge with the VX900 and I love it. It's response matches my older triniton based Sony CRT monitor but this thing is bigger, brighter and down right beautiful. I believe that this display rivals Apple's awesome Cinema Display at 1/2 the price. You can't go wrong with this monitor!

The perfect match

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Oct 21, 2002
I'm fortunate enough to be able to compare this monitor next to my sony 19" crt, at the same time. I run a g4 ti4600 with twin view. I must say this monitor is impressive for an LCD. It will run neck and neck with the trinitron in sharpness and color reproduction. It's only problem is in gaming. It just can't respond fast enough in action games. I fly combat sims and the ghosting is noticable. In first person shooters it's less noticable. With that said I still give it a 5 for it's outstanding sharpness and good looks. One of the best LCD's I've used.
I will also add that viewsonics tech support is verygood. When I contacted them about a driver update question, they were quick to respond and very helpfull.

Am I dreaming or is this what I am seeing?

The clarity of this LCD is amazing. This is as close to perfect as any LCD can get at this price. I ran at full resolution and never looked back. I've compared and tested this out against others at the local retail store; the testing wasn't that great because the PC was too slow but it was enough to sample. What made the difference was the 3 year warranty that Viewsonic provides, competitive pricing and most importantly the performance.

I traded my Viewsonic P95F 19inch flat monitor-the best 19in there is- for the clarity of this LCD without significant degradation in gaming performance. I connected to my Geforce 4 DVI slot. I notice it was not as fast as a CRT but the response time and framerate was more than acceptable for gaming(Serious Sam 2, Max Payne or Quake 3 Arena). This LCD is should be the threshold of LCDs to come. There's no turning back to CRT.

I'm not going to worry too much about this LCD because it's got a 3year warranty for an item this pricey. I like it because I an stay up longer at night with my work.I won't suffer as much eyestrain. Second, the machine doesn't eat up too much power;only 40 watt and the transistors in the LCD is suppose to last about 4 years. I didn't even bother to hook up the LCD speakers. This is a product you can go wrong. This item is INSANELY GREAT and it pleases me very much.
