Great changer, horrible problems though.

(3 out of 5) by nobaboon on Oct 19, 2003 (Chicago, IL United States)
I received the changer as a requested gift to replace a Technics SL-MC410, which was great btw, just not enough capacity. The only improvement in the Sony is more discs, but the only initially perceived benefit was it's ability to play mp3 discs. This is where the first major problem is: the lag time between tracks is HUGE. Playing mixes is incredibly frustrating. Even changing from disc to disc is infuriating, it takes longer than any changer I've used. Also, to add discs or even open the door requires stopping the item playing at the time. Overall, the capacity is impressive, but do NOT purchase this item based on its ability to play mp3 albums.

Love it! but. . .

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Sep 27, 2002 (Aaronsburg, PA United States)
I've had my 400 CD changer for two years and I love it!! It's quite convienient having all of the CD's loaded in the changer, and I really like all of the various functions, esp. the groupings. Lately tho, one of the channels has not been playing, or else there's so much static I can't use it, and here-in lies the big problem: in order to take it to be repaired, I'll have to UNLOAD all 400CD's!... And will they all still be programed in when I get it back?! The way I see it, a really big hassle but for a far-out piece of equipment. At this point, I'm debating whether or not to return to a 5 CD changer because of that. Otherwise, I think it's wonderful. So I'll give it 4 stars!

Great CD Changer, Buy 2

(5 out of 5) by J. GRACE on Mar 18, 2007 (Englewood, FL United States)
I'M BACK...May 2, 2009...I just needed to follow-up...I have no idea why others are having problems or do not like these decks. Maybe they are not setting it up correctly. It's simple, keep it level,on a solid surface and follow the instructions..that's it. Update... Both of my CD Decks are still operating as advertised and flawlessly. As far as the sound goes, I have a surround sound system with Bose speakers and it sounds great. I now load 400 CD's in each deck and load the Christmas CD's only during the holidays. The following is my review from March 18, 2007...I have read some of the reviews and this is the reason I'm writing this. I purchased two of these units over 3 years ago and they have operated flawlessly for me. I have them connect together and with the no-delay feature there is no gap in the music. As soon as a song ends in one CD deck another song starts in the other. I have about 390 CD's in each unit. During the christmas holidays they are full, 400 each. The reason I take the christmas CD's out is sometimes I like to play both units on full random, all disc, shuffle. And who wants Christmas music all year long. Both units operate as advertised. So if you are like me and couldn't decide which CD's to put in a smaller CD changer (I had a 5 Disc changer), or though of another CD you wanted to hear. Now the problem is solved, I have access to 800 CD's.

Great CD Player and Transaction!

(5 out of 5) by D. Goerner on Feb 17, 2007 (Greer, SC USA)
Previously I'd purchased from E-Bay a "used" Sony 300-disk player for a fair price. It worked rather well for several months and then all sorts of problems arose and I couldn't even use it. I purchased this unit brand-new and have enjoyed listening to my music once more, with the bonus of having 100-disk extra capacity.

One thing I don't like about this unit that's different from the 300-disk player is its ability to easily categorize music into 8 fields. It's a little more tricky to perform and the manual is not all that clear on how to do it. A small issue that I've since conquered and now can "All Discs-Shuffle" within a category now that it's all setup.

The quality is fantastic and have not had even one slight issue in the 2-months that I've owned it. It gets daily playtime and seems a great unit.
