LCD Projection Screen Benefits

(5 out of 5) by Timothy L. Karsjens on Mar 26, 2003 (Rogers, MN United States)
During the process of shopping for a new HDTV, I was dead set on getting a plasma or LCD big screen. After seeing this TV in a local store, I was floored by the picture quality, which was better than Plasma or flat screen LCD.

Here is the deal with Plasma versus this TV. The LCD projection technology is solid, with brights and darks coming through without pixelation or loss of clarity. The Plasma technology is still new, and more often than not, there are issues with the picture of an affordable plasma, including bright darks and washed out colors. This LCD Projection screen nails all of the things that make a TV great and it has a small footprint. Plasma? I would rather spend the money on this, than three times the price for a plasma that is not up to snuff.

If you wish to have a full review of the benefits of the LCD projection versus the plasma, check out some of the reviews ...

Good while it lasts, terrible to repair

(1 out of 5) by Freddie on Nov 4, 2005
The TV is great while it lasts in my case two years and then developed the blue spot and green/yellow tinge. Every other negative revue posted here seems to be in the same boat. I was quoted $2995 for the repair. Clearly if everyone that has purchased this TV is having the same problem then there is a design fault and we should have our TVs replaced with a comparable non defective product, like that will ever happen. $3,000 to watch this TV for a mere 2 years and it is now cost prohibitive to repair. Shame on zenith, I will never buy another zenith product again.

UPDATE- MY EXPERIENCE WITH LG ELECTRONICS CUSTOMER SERVICE:
I recently contacted you to obtain service information for my tv which had developed a blue spot and now a full screen green tinge, you gave me the recommended service agents, they picked it up and told me it will cost $2995 to fix, that's more than what I can buy a new one for. How is it that after just 3 years under normal operation a tv can require so much repair that it is cheaper to buy a new one? Clearly this is a defective lemon! What recourse do I have from Zenith in correcting this problem? Regards Freddie

REPLY:
Dear Freddie, Thank you for inquiring of Zenith Electronics. We sincerely regret that you have experienced difficulties with your Zenith Product. All electronic equipment requires maintenance from time to time despite the most exacting quality control standards at the factory. While we constantly strive for better ways of keeping maintenance to a minimum, occasional failures can occur. The manufacturer's limited warranty is designed to take care of any failures in the early life of the unit. Once this warranty has expired however, the consumer becomes responsible for any repair. Your unit is now approximately 2 years out of the manufacturer's warranty. Regretfully, we are unable to assist you with any of the expense of this repair due the expiration of the manufacturer's warranty. Thank you again for contacting LG Electronics. RESPONSE TO THIS:
Thank you for your comments please forward this email to the president of LG Electronics as I feel that it is his decision on how he wants to proceed.

With all the negative revues here on amezaon.com, mine now included on this particular model of television it is clearly a design fault and this needs addressing by LG Electronics.

I want my television fixed; I did not pay $3000 dollars to have a TV for 3 years this is absolutely unacceptable and unethical.

If my television is not fixed I intend to contact FOX News here in Florida, they have a show called Help Me Howard, who's a lawyer that addresses companies poor business practices on local television.

In addition I will report my findings in the incident with LG Electronics to the better business bureau and in addition start a website for all owners of this television to add their comments and experiences of it and looking at amazons' negative revues this would not benefit LG Electronics in any way shape or form.

You made a bad product it's clearly flawed, you need to address that and replace that bad product, the negative impact already is extremely damaging to your company.

Again I want a television that works, that is what I paid your company for, please advise me on how you want me to proceed?

Great Value!

(4 out of 5) by technojunkie on Dec 5, 2003 (Pembroke Pines, Florida United States)
Just got the set couple of days ago. 1)It DOES NOT take 2 minutes to "warm up" it is on fully bright at 15 seconds or so. I haven't seen it with an HDTV source yet but I can tell you that a "superbit" DVD looks stunning. It also looked very crisp with my XBOX hooked up. The EZ picture formatting is great for stretching the 4:3 TV signal (i like the 2nd zoom best) there are plenty of inputs on the back and the set has lots of nice features (pic in pic, pic out of pic, 3 window channel scanning)
You can view the display at almost 180 degrees and it doesn't "black out" like an LCD panel. Don't be disappointed if a standard TV signal doesn't look "stunning" I think it's just the nature of the beast. It still looks pretty good. I am anxious to switch over to "the dish" so i can get HDTV. Oh yeah, it's light (for a big set) 135 lbs. you can actually move the damn thing if you need to! Aesthetically the set is gorgeous to look at even when its turned off. My favorite thing is to put 2 large pictures side by side and watch the main channels (coming straight from the cable) and then "surf" the cable box channels and the window beside it. This can be done by piping the cable box output into a video input. I was very hesitant buying the tv sight unseen but am very pleased. BTW, you can go to the Zenith website and download the PDF manual for the set, that is very helpful. Finally saw picture in HDTV and it was STUNNING. Downside, NO DVI INPUT! DVI is apparently the newer pure digitial uncompressed connection (a little larger than an RGB jack) Newer TVs have them WHY DOESN'T THIS ONE? That's the only drawback I can think of. The HDTV picture into the RGB jack still looks fantastic.

Better than Plasma at less than Half the Price!

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Feb 18, 2003 (Longmont, CO United States)
If you've done your research then you know the benefits of LCD over Plasma, and this TV (monitor actually) is the best of the best. We did our shopping over several months before settling on this masterpiece, and after hosting a Super Bowl party with this bohemith as the center attraction, we're the talk of the neighborhood! Amazing picture clarity and brightness (even in a bright room)! We sit at home and ooh and aah over our latest and greatest purchase...the best addition to our home in years. We FULLY FULLY recommend this Zenith over all else.

Zenith D60WLCD "Buyer Beware"

(1 out of 5) by R. Black on Jan 8, 2005 (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)
I've had set for approximately 6 months, well not exactly. The local Zenith repair service picked up my set after 5 months of use. The lower screen developed blue, then green horizontal display problem. The local service has requested $2,500 in parts to repair, however the parts required to repair the set are not available, I'm told, until mid-February. No set for Xmas, New Years, despite efforts to press repairs at Zenith and repair service. Upon request, it takes 2 days for a supervisor from Zenith to return a phone call. I purchased an extended warranty but did not expect the problems or service levels I've experienced. Unfortunately, I can not rate any higher than 1 Star.
