Sounded Great

(4 out of 5) by Knikless on Apr 13, 2008
I owned this head-unit for about 2 years, then I sold it and upgraded. I loved how it rolled back and completely hid when the car was off. I never had any problems with any part of it and I was running a complete system off of it. I wouldnt recommend it as much now, since head-units have come a long way since it's release, but if you find it for cheap, pick it up!

confirm flawed design

This unit is indeed flawed. A product of this caliber should provide a lifetime of quality service. It does nothing of the sort. I am currently in the process of insisting that Kenwood do something to make it right and request that other dissatisfied customers email me to join the fight. chip_lee_iii@yahoo.com.

Flawed Design

This head unit offers about as many customization features as you could want.....including equalization that allows you to chose centerpoints in the bass, mid-range, and treble, and then attenuation or boost around those centerpoints. The sound is decent as is the search and play capabilities of the MP3 player. Unfortunately, the flip head feature of the unit is badly flawed. After about a year the unit had to go to the repair shop because the flip mechanism failed. The local repair people tell me this is common in this model and they keep extra spare ribbons (which is what fails) to repair the head unit. The head unit cannot be used when this happens because it stays in a half opened position. In addition, it periodically malfunctions, flipping itself in a half open position. You have to reset the unit and that looses all your setting.

In any case, I'll never buy another flip head again and doubt I'll buy another Kenwood. I informed Kenwood of my problems and they never responded to me.
