I had never used 1.3GB (GIGAMO) Magneto Optical (MO) drive before.
But my friend told me that MO media is very small, like floppy disk size, yet it can hold 1.3GB of data, so I decided to give it a try.
When I received the drive and the disk, I was impressed by the size of the disk and also the drive itself.
The disk as small as a typical floppy, a little smaller than a ZIP media.
This external drive is thin, compact and ready to go anywhere
It has a very nice looking. Its surface is finished with sleek metalic color, and its front and side is blueish translucent.
Okay, I was satisfied with the outlook so far, but what about functionality ?
I have windows XP running on my laptop, and I have IEEE1394 Firewire PCMCIA card ....
The installation turned out to be very simple. I just wired the cable between my PCMCIA card and the MO drive and powered up the unit. Windows XP found all the software it needs for the drive and boom! I could start using the drive as a removable disk.
I did not have to read the manual or anything, not a single page.
I inserted the 1.3GB GIGAMO media into the drive, and windows XP asked me to format the media.
It took a few minutes to finish formatting the new disk but it is torelable comparing to the long, long format time of CDRW.
There is no problem in copying, moving, deleting files back and forth between my laptop and the drive.
It is as easy as dealing with the floppy drive.
This is a great product. Ultra portable solution for backing up your data up to 1.3GB every day.
I am so far very pleased with this product and planning to buy another one for use in my office too.
