It's an expensive FIXER-UPPER, but it'll work.

(4 out of 5) by Jon Scott on Jan 30, 2003 (Indianapolis, IN United States)
I bought this phone from ... for only [$$$]. If you have the phone... this is a GREAT price! However, mine fell subject to the same problem that the other people here have written about - Incredibly short battery life and long charge times.

I read...that Panasonic told them to stick some double sided tape on the back of the battery, as the problem was a loose battery compartment (design issue). I wrote Panasonic as well, a company that I have ALWAYS preferred to buy my electronics from, and after one entire week, they have not bothered to get back to me...

The answer to the problem is this: take your phone back to the place you bought it from, and get your [money] back. ... Once you get it in the mail, open the battery compartment, take out the battery and find yourself a small piece of paper, a post-it note for example. Fold the paper over and over at about the width of the small part of the battery, and tape it to the bottom of the battery.

Now carefully stick the battery back in, with the paper holding it firmly against the springs (contacts) and put the cover back on. After having done this a 2 hour conversation barely took more than one bar of the phone's power and solved the problem easily NO THANKS TO MY TRUSTED FRIENDS AT PANASONIC.

Had to return it

(2 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Aug 6, 2002
Seems like it is getting tougher all the time to find a cordless phone that works really well. I own another panasonic so I felt confident this one would be ok. But I kept getting complaints from people I called that I sounded distant or like I was inside a barrel. Then there were clicks and I was told I kept breaking up. The final problem was the design of the handset... somehow just couldn't get a comfortable fit with my ear. Seems like they design phones without even considering that someone has to hold the thing against an ear for what may be long periods of time. So had to return it and try another.

After 3 months - battery degrades and is unusable

(1 out of 5) by FictionFan on Dec 13, 2002 (Franklin, Massachusetts USA)
This phone started out fine in August when the phone was first purchased. The phone would last a good couple hours off the cradle in an idle mode. However, now a single 5-10 minute phone call , after charging overnight, will inexplicably kill the phone, and the call, leading to an unusable product. Panasonic support wishes to charge me money to have the unit looked at - which I refuse to do , given I think the product should work correctly. Based upon other peoples feedback and experiences - I think this series of phones from Panasonic(2237/2247/2257) have a design issue that needs to be addressed - or better yet Recalled. Do not purchase this phone.

Can't hear the rings!

(3 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Oct 8, 2002
I have this phone for a week and I love the design and features. I was worried because I've read a lot of reviews about the faulty rechargable batteries and limited range from this line of Panasonic phones (KX-TG2237, KX-TG2247, KX-TG2257). I tested it by leaving the handset off the base for more than 24 hours and the battery strength did not decrease. So I think mine is OK. The range of this phone is fine for using inside the house. I have no need to carry my phone 300 feet away from my apartment, I'd carry my cell phone instead. The sound of the handset is a little bright but the clarity is excellent. My only complaint is the ringer volume, it comes in 3 settings (ringer off, low and high), low is inaudible and high is you can barely hear it. I could not hear the ring if I have my TV on in the living room while I was in the kitchen. Panasonic should definitely correct this problem for their future products. overall, I think I can live with this phone.

will not hold charge

(2 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Aug 13, 2003
This phone has some greate features. The only problem is that you cannot make use of them if the phone does not work. This phone will not hold charge. I leave it in the charger all night, make one 15 minute call and then it either just dies or the battery shows that there is no charge left, and this is with a new battery. The other thing that I noticed while troubleshoting is that if you remove a fully charged battery, and then place it back in to the phone... it shows as almost completely empty.... like I said it would be a great phone, but there is something very wrong with this design.
