Quality Head Unit

(5 out of 5) by D. Fanton on Nov 20, 2002 (Williston, VT)
I had the Pioneer DEHP6400 installed in my car a few months ago along with a pair of new Pioneer 4x6 speakers. After shopping around for a few months and researching different companies I settled on Pioneer. I was looking specifically for a unit with a volume knob rather than a button and some sort of digital display, as well as support for XM radio, expecting that at some point I may want to upgrade. The features on the DEHP6400 are endless, allowing the user to control nearly every aspect of the sound quality, which overall is excellent. The bass response on the unit is great. I upgraded from a Sony unit that I had to turn the bass way up on in order to achieve the sound I wanted. With the DEHP6400 I have the bass set on a +1 and I can feel the bass line through my doors. The user interface is easy once you get the hang of it and the remote is much more of an advantage than I had anticipated. The display is nice and the entertainment options many. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase and would recommend this unit to anyone looking to get into higher end car audio.

DEH-P6400

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Aug 7, 2002 (Grand Rapids, Michigan)
I've had this CD Player for a couple of months and it's the best investment I've made in my car yet. In going from a cassette player to a CD player, one would think that anything would be better than what I started with. While true, this CD player has allowed me to go the extra mile. The graphics are excellent, offering great resolution. The install was very easy, but somewhat tedious. For those not willing to put in a little bit of time, have somebody else install it. So far, I've had zero problems with the player and I now get a lot more out of my speaker system. If you're looking for a new CD player and are willing to spend a couple of extra bucks, definately consider this CD player.

Mediocure at best

FM reception is poor, I live in NJ and it will pick up nothing from New York City and gets only so-so reception from Philadelphia.

My stock radio had better FM reception with every Philadelphia station coming in crystal clear and I was even able to get a couple stations from New York City!

XM reception is fine but since the text does not scroll I cannot take advantage of when they say "look at you XM digital display" because I only see 7 letters!
