Nice sound and rugged enough for the clumsiest

(5 out of 5) by Holly Kennedy on Nov 12, 2005
I recieved this player as a gift a little more than a year ago and couldn't be happier. The sound quality is nice and clear, there's plenty of bass boost for my taste, and the design is quite good.

The headphones that came with it were pretty decent. Being a cheapskate, I use the headphones that come with a player until they break, and this took nearly a year. Their design, however, leaves a bit to be desired. It is hard to keep them on one's head, and their width is not appropriate for those with smaller heads (like mine). They also warp rather easily.

This player's skip protection is amazing. It has been dropped on many occasions without skipping at all. I have actually never been able to get it to skip.

Another positive review

(5 out of 5) by Dean Campbell on Mar 8, 2004 (El Paso, TX USA)
I agree with the positive reviews below. I'd just like to mention a few things.

Performance. I use the unit while jogging. I've noticed a couple of skips in the music when I get to running fast downhill. Perhaps the extra movement and/or impact is more than the skip-control can handle. No big deal. I recommend setting the skip control to G-2(?), which supposedly reduces sound quality. If it does I haven't detected it. Finally, I selected my settings then hit the Hold button to lock the settings into place and prevent an accidental change.

Headphones. I don't mess with the volume control on the unit. In fact, I can't while I'm out jogging. (See below.) I use a good set of headphones with volume control on the chords so it's easy to reach. Besides, I don't like the little "bud" phones that come with the unit.

Carrying the unit. I jog with two dogs so hand-holding the unit is not an option. I used to carry my cassette Walkman in my pocket but that resulted in too many drops with ensuing shortened useful lives. After I killed the last Walkman I figured there had to be a better way. My solution was to purchase a CD Walkman Carrying Case with a belt for the waist. Now the unit is secure, and if I do drop it (which has not happened), there's an extra layer of padding. The problem with the case is that access to all the controls except the start/stop button is lost. Hence the need to have the volume control on the headphones.

Sony Cd walkman S2

(5 out of 5) by Brian on Aug 20, 2003 (Sac.,California USA)
I think this cd player is the best because it is built tough. I have dropped my S2 about 5 times and it still works. It is all around a great gadget.

Great Walkman

(4 out of 5) by CBug on Jan 23, 2003 (USA)
Here's what I think about this Walkman:

Pros:
-Does not skip at all
-Very rugged, very secure buckle
-It DOES pause
-Great for jogging or treadmill,or any other kind of sport
-Long-lasting battery life

Cons:
-Badly placed volume knob
-No belt loop
-Really uncomfortable headphones: buy over-the-head ones

Otherwise, excellent Walkman, with great sound. I advise you buy.

great walkman

(5 out of 5) by Neel Aroon on Jun 4, 2002 (Lexington, KY United States)
This walkman is easy to use with great shock protection. I've jogging with it and havent had any problems with sound yet. The sound quality is excellenty. The controls are easy to use. In addition, the headphones are really good. I first thought they wouldn't be good because they look flimsy but they are goood.
