Good Budget Speakers (emphasis on "Budget")

(4 out of 5) by Orson Wang on Jun

For the price, it is difficult to beat this set of speakers. Sure, Logitech is an unlikely contestant in this arena, but it easily beats any others near this set's low price. Right off the bat, you will notice that there is a power button, volume control knob and headphone jack on the right speaker. Some speakers in this price range inconveniently put the volume control and power button on the subwoofer (which is supposed to be placed out of sight and reach) and most lack a headphone jack. Incidentally, plugging in headphones automatically mutes the speakers - nice.
That said, the sound quality, although better than similar-priced competitors, does have very significant shortcomings compared to speakers costing just a few dollars more. Most noticeably, the satellite speakers utilize a single cone each - thus the treble is slightly rolled off, giving a slightly "hollow" sound compared to systems which boast a seperate tweeter and midrange. Similarly, the bass unit, although impressive in its ability to pump out loud volumes, is also rolled off - the rating of 35Hz is too optimistic. My measurements show a more realistic rating of 50Hz, even after putting the subwoofer in a corner which should result in the most reinforcement of low frequencies. The subwoofer cabinet is made of wood, so what bass it does produce is tight and clean.
If you can afford it, doubling your budget can buy satellites with seperate mid-range and tweeter drivers that will give significantly better sound. But for the penny-pincher, look no further.

Top-notch sound

I've been using another set of speakers (sans subwoofer) for several years, and they finally went to that big electronic graveyard in the sky. I replaced them with the Logitech Z340 3-Piece speakers, and am completely amazed by the sound quality, even at low volumes. I have them set up in my office at work (it's a small office), and I can get my desk shaking with the subwoofer and still not disturb my coworkers (much).
The speakers are solid and well-manufactured, like all of the logitech products I've used, and I highly recommend them.

Superb speakers from Logitech

(5 out of 5) by Chris Meyer on Jun

Logitech has made quality keyboards and mice for many years. They certainly didn't leave their reputation for quality behind when they made these speakers. The sound these things produce is awesome. I shopped around extensively for new 2.1 computer speakers, and couldn't find anything that sounded as good as the Logitech's in this price range. Sure, you can go out and spend over a hundred bucks on a set of Klipsch's, but for the amount I use my computer speakers, that wasn't worth it. The bass is extremely powerful, and comes across full and rich. I have found the satellite speakers to be able to play mid and high ranges very well, after a little tweaking of the mixer on my computer. The power light is a little harsh on the eyes, but that's the only thing I can complain about. The volume knob didn't turn very well at first, but after a little while it started working fine. The fact that the satellite speakers are wall-mountable is nice if you want to erase a little clutter from your desk. All in all, I fell in love with these speakers the first time I listened to them, and haven't been disappointed at all with them listening to classical music, rock music, and with gaming. They are truly worth purchasing!

Great Boom for Your Buck!

I must admit I was a little skeptical about these being made by Logitech (who are hardly known as the speaker experts) but I am really impressed by these speakers and subwoofer. They are great if you need a budget multimedia system because the price is right, and the performance is more than adequate. I like the small footprint of the speakers because I don't have a great deal of room. The subwoofer is pretty huge and offers oodles of bass if you want it. The power, volume control, and headphone jack on the speaker itself is a great bonus, as is the funky bright blue light! The sound quality is perfectly acceptable for the price, too.

Good deal, good sound

We were looking around and stumbled upon these at best buy for 24.95 after mail in rebate. We were expecting ok sound, but were pleasantly suprised when they sounded great and even had some extra features. Like silver stands with rubber feet on the sat's, the cool blue indicator light, and it sounded pretty loud for the power rating too. The wires connecting the two sat's would be difficult to lengthen because they are permanently attached, but it was fine for my setup.
