The King of graphics editing, Baby!!!

(5 out of 5) by Rob Harrast on Dec 31, 2002 (Atlanta, GA USA)
Hopefully you can find an old copy around to upgrade and save yourself most of the cost. My kids have started using it to touch up their school photos. They use it to speed up the graphics for selling on ebay. We fixed our Christmas picture with it. We used it to create a mock up cover for a book my wife proposed to a publisher. We used it to automatically put several copies of a photo on the expensive paper, instead of wasting it. Everything turns out looking like a professional did it, even though we are simple amateurs.

Awesome program... many applications

(5 out of 5) by Dragon on Jun 1, 2003 (Bergen County, NJ, USA)
I'm a freshman in high school and had no expierience in Photoshop until I began. There, I quickly fell in love with the program. I've worked with 5.0, 6.0, and 7.0, and 7.0 is easily the best out of all of them.

I'll agree with the other reviewers: it is hard to learn at first. But as soon as you begin to understand the concept of layers and get into the tools a little more, it's really quite an easy program to learn. There's a wide array of filters to change the look of your images, a variety of brushes, the healing tool (which is wonderful for touching up photos), and many others. I've edited my own photos and created graphics and banners for personal forays into web design. ImageReady is also a great tool for creating animated images, rollovers, and image maps, and also serves as a mini version of photoshop when you don't feel like booting up the whole thing.

I also have Corel PhotoPaint 9 at home, and Photoshop is easily the superior product. Period.

Just a quick comment on Makthorpe's review...

(5 out of 5) by Paulo on Dec 9, 2002 (Kristiansand Norway)
I have being running Photoshop 7.0 on Windows 2000 Professional for over a month now, and have not experienced any problems at all (i.e. System Crashes). My guess is that other programs in Makthorpe's computer were conflicting with photoshop. Apart from that I must say that I'm really impressed with all photoshop's features. I learn something new everyday now. I find this program fun to play with, so it is not difficult to learn. Though there is a lot to learn...

A high-quality piece of software

(5 out of 5) by Oliver on Jun 9, 2002 (UK)
Photoshop is excellent for what it is: a high end, professional piece of software. That is to say, it has a good range of features and is very flexible, capable of producing anything to which you set your mind.

However... because of the depth of features, it can be INCREDIBLY difficult to use at first, and even the simplest tasks can take an age to perform if you aren't fluent with the software!! In that respect, it scores low for ease of use, but since it is probably not intended for the amateur user, it would be unfair to let this count against it.

Don't be intimidated by this -it'll become easy once you've done a few tutorials, and once you've mastered it the world is your oyster- but be prepared to have learn first!
