Strange behavior, annoying features

(2 out of 5) by Timothy B. Duggan on Sep 4, 2003 (Concord, MA USA)
It seemed to be a bargain for the price, but I suspect that I got what I paid for. The unit has quite a few annoying "features": it replays disks exactly 1 hour after you stop them - I found this on the first night when Al Pacino woke me out of a sound sleep after I left the DVD in the player.

The setup IS frustrating because the manual doesn't match the firmware - they changed the user interface and shipped the manual for the old one. The menu system is modal - you have to be in tuner mode to set the clock, that option doesn't appear in CD/DVD mode. Of course the manual tells you to press the "setup" button to get there but the remote has a "menu" button. Bad translations abound... anyone care to move any more of this work offshore (That's probably not fair, how did I expect them to offer this product at this price)?

The eject button doesn't interrupt when you turn the unit on and press eject - the unit still spins the disk all the way up and inspects it for about 15 seconds. Oh, don't even think of putting a mildly scratched CD in it - it doesn't deal with that well at all... sounds like a 33 played on 45.

I'm sending it back because of the 1 hour delay thing and they told me that the 928 is discontinued so they'll be replacing it with the newer model. I can't wait to see what I get with that... - oh and I pay the shipping to them... about 15% of the purchase price - a small system but still 61 pounds.

I wonder if I'm going to wish I had just spent the extra money up front when all is said and done.

It's been a major disappointment...

(1 out of 5) by Eric Stephan on May 8, 2004 (Gig Harbor, WA United States)
I bought this Koss system as their headphones have been some of the best but this system theater system is a giant leap downward. Major complaint: it simply won't play a dvd unless it is in pristine condition. About half the DVD's we rent won't play all the way through. Second complaint: the remote is not intuitive and thus very confusing. Now I've got to buy a 2nd DVD player so I can watch videos. Look elsewhere!

I Like It!

(4 out of 5) by Howard McNeely on Dec 2, 2002 (Kansas City, MO United States)
As a novice to the world of DVD, I was searching for something, checked BestBuy, KMart, Wal-Mart, wanted to take a "test drive" of the DVD movie THE HIRE by BMW. No luck, most places either had nothing I was interested in or they were far too expensive or not interested in assisting me.
The price was right, and I especially enjoy both the FM and AM radio reception.
The remote control does have too many and too small buttons, has been difficult for me to figure out, but when I do it right everything is great. I still keep the users' manual close by.
Getting up to change disks from one to another is a pain sometimes, but I need more exercise.
I cannot imagine how that new system Bose is flashing on my screen can be worth over ten times what I paid for the Koss.

perfect starter system

(4 out of 5) by amanda jackson on Oct 28, 2002 (Albuquerque, nm United States)
DVD's look amazing on this system when using the S-Vidio. The speakers are perfect for someone who wants a starter system and is willing to build on it.

The downside is the remote that is too confussing. It has too many buttons and bad instructions. The fact that it only plays one disk is hard because are using it for our CD player and find it annoying to have to be changing the disk so much

Overall it is a good buy and a great price.

Bargain price, great features...

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jun 19, 2002
I'm really happy with this unit - it has great sound, all the features work just fine, and I really *love* the built in video switcher that makes using it pretty straightforward.
Only negative - KOSS is not listed in my multi-function remote.
