MUST draw power from your receiver - otherwise won't work

(5 out of 5) by R. W. Mansfield on Dec 29, 2007 (suburban New York City)
Nowhere is it mentioned in the product description or PDF data sheet that this device requires 12 volts DC (VDC) to 18.5VDC from your satellite receiver to operate, although the product package states this. Without a power source, the amplifier will NOT work and will likely reduce your signal. This issue appears to be the general reason for the negative product evaluations. If you're not using a satellite receiver that feeds 12-18.5VDC into the amplifier, then use an amplifier that comes with a power supply, such as the Motorola 484095-001-00 Signal Booster. (Since writing this, Amazon revised the product details to include a power source statement at my request.)

For Satellite only!

(5 out of 5) by Goldfish on Sep 19, 2004
To the person who wrote the previous review. The reason it did not work for your cable signal is because this is for Satellite. It is power by your Satellite. So if your trying to use this for Cable, it will not work.

Doesn't appear to do anything

(1 out of 5) by E. B. Maddon on Aug 13, 2009 (Staten Island, NY)
I installed this amplifier for a Dish Network setup. Some of the channels are showing 30%, others 60%. After installing this amplifier, the numbers are exactly the same. Since it doesn't come with a manual of any kind, and since their website offers absolutely no advice - should it be connected closer to the dish or closer to the receiver? In the middle? Does it matter? I have no way of knowing whether or not this problem is the amplifier or the setup. Buyer beware - it may do absolutely nothing at all.

Extremely disappointed

(1 out of 5) by R. Richardson on Mar 28, 2007 (Clinton, UT, USA)
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! I have Directv with HD (5 LNB) and the signal was low. Signal was less than 60% for some of the transponder signals which caused a choppy picture or no picture while watching HD. So I bought these to amplify my satellite signal. They actually attenuated the signal. The signal strength wasn't improved on the non HD receivers that I have as well. It didn't matter where I put them in relation to the dish and receiver.
