Display Dies...and sound quality minimal..

(3 out of 5) by Elizabeth Bowers on Jun 7, 2003 (Seattle, WA United States)
It was really frustrating considering I dropped quite a few dollars on this machine..to discover that 4 months later..the screen went out and now the thing will only turn on when plugged into the wall. I have tried 3 - 4 sets of new battaries all to no avail...granted memorex offers great products cheaper then sony or others..but i tell you ...the things die just when the warranty expires. No more memmorex anything for me!

great buy for the package

(4 out of 5) by andrew120 on Jun 7, 2002 (detroit)
for the money this is the best cd/mp3 palyer you can get. i've had no problems and its lcd screen is very good and plain. i read other reviews that said they had problems with the quality after recording the mp3 format, not mine. one draw back is you run thru batteries like mad, oh well.

Died after only 5 months

(1 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on May 24, 2002 (Louisville, KY USA)
It was a pretty good player. A little slow on the loading, and skips from time to time. But the whole thing completely STOPPED WORKING AFTER ONLY 5 MONTHS. It won't start up at all. It wasn't dropped, jarred, jostled, submerged, etc. I called the customer service line who said, sorry your 90-day warranty is up. So I'm out [$$$]. Please spend your money on a better name brand (even though I thought I could trust memorex). I replaced it with a Koss, which I'll probably bring back. Very disappointing!!!

Worst of the worst

(1 out of 5) by Lee on May 16, 2002 (New York, NY United States)
Honestly, this is the worst of the worst. It's 45sec. anti-skip [stinks] the most. It doesn't work at all ... and that's walking a normal pace! If you want to give your money away ... still don't choose this one to do it on!

Good Value!

(4 out of 5) by G.D. on May 2, 2002 (Kalamazoo, MI USA)
I purchased the Memorex MPD8507CP primarily for use in my car. So far I have found that it performs as advertised and I have had no problems with it. The first disk that I tried in it was an MP3 CD that I had burnt simply as a back up of the MP3 files that I had on my PC. This disk did not play in my home DVD/CD/MP3 player however the MPD8507CP recognized it immediately and played it without a hitch. I also like the line-out feature, as well as the built in EQ. The ability to navigate/search multiple nested folders is also very handy. The only thing that I didn't like about it is the button placement for the FWD/REW buttons which appears counter-intuitive to me. I kept hitting the STOP button when I meant to hit the REW button because of the way it is placed next to the FWD button, however that is a minor issue and now that I have had the unit for a while, I am getting used to the button placement. The multi line display is OK, but I wish it was backlit.

In all I think that it is a very good value for money, especially as it comes with the car adapter kit (very useful!) included.
