Best of Both Worlds

(5 out of 5) by dakota on Nov 10, 2001 (Atlanta, GA)
I have owned the Memorex MPD8507CP for a few weeks and I love it. It is so full featured that I am still learning new things about it. It gives me great flexibility of being able to search for files, scan intros and supports multiple directories. With its line and phone outputs I can listen to it at home, work or in the car. I chose it over a memory card unit so i can swap mp3 cds with my friends. If you have the ability to burn mp3 cds this is the unit for you. You can burn a cd for every mood imaginable and then just pop it into the player whenever and wherever you are. Dollar for dollar you won't find a better deal on such a full featured cd/mp3 player.

Hater of this

(1 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Apr 17, 2002
OK....the cd player is really annoying. it skips a lot, sometimes it just stops and wont play again till I take out the batteries, and I dropped it once...and IT BROKE. I had another cd player, I had dropped it a bunch and nothing happened to it...so I got really [mad] about this one.

There's way too many features on here and it's impossible to find the song you want on it. It's really slow to play, and it eats batteries like a mofo. All in all it is really annoying, and I'd go with a slightly more expensive, but better quality product.

AAAAHHHHSSOOOOMMMMMEEEEEEE

Memorex does it again, this is my third MP3 CD Player from Memorex, they were on board with the technology from day one, and having owned three of these now, I see the progression, and improvement of their product with every one that I purchase. The others served me well, very well in fact, the first one I gave to a friend, the second tok a 3 story tumble, landed on it's side and exploded, this is the replacement. I work construction, and can pack an entire days worth of music on an MP3 CD. I will buy MP3 CD Players from Memorex as long as they continue to make them.....

Ok but not great

(1 out of 5) by Matt on May 4, 2002
Well when i first say this mp3/cd player i thought it was going to be great. it had a car kit and some pretty cool headphones i thought. When i put in my mp3 cd it took forever, i really mean it forever. Well im only 16 and i am very active. Now there was a review that said it skips when its on its side. I agree i walk home with it in my pocket it skips and stops, very annoying. But when i take it out and hold it flat it doesnt skip no matter what u do with it. The worst thing about the whole cd player is the constant background noise. From the startup of the player it has a hissing noise. Its not that loud but after a while it drives me crazy. I tried about 5 different pairs of headphones with it and the noise was still there. Also the headphones that come with it are not great at all. The features are nice if u have the time to mess with them. Also when u turn of the unit and turn it back on its starts from the beginning. Well im going to return this cd player hopefully so i can get the rio sp250. But its an ok mp3/cd player for the price.

Disappointed

I was basically going for a stopgap here - something to play MP3's on in my car until I get an iPod (still waiting for that price to come down.)

The good: comes with 12V adaptor/cassette out (car kit). Hasn't skipped at all in response to rough roads or light handling.

The bad: Random play isn't random! The same order will be played each time you choose random. And what's worse, it won't remember what song you were on when you turned it off. You always start at the same place when you start up. Lastly, if the power adaptor pops out of the socket, which often happens on bumpy roads, the unit shuts off. These have combined for something of a miserable experience on long car rides - you're in the middle of a 100-song mp-3 CD, hit a bump and the unit shuts off. When you plug it back in and turn it back on, you're back at the beginning. You have to keep hitting the track skip to get back to where you were. Which could be 80 presses. And the player doesn't handle scratches and dust well at all.

Just save up and buy that iPod. That's what I'll be doing.
