I thought this would be a good choice for our library, but it didn't work for us. Unfortunately, the lamp is much larger than it appears in the pictures and not very elegant in design. (My husband and I both thought it was kind of horsey.) We expected honey brass to be brushed brass but it turns out it's a black smoked finish overlayed on the brass. All we could think of is that it looked like the lamp had been in a fire. Aesthetically, it didn't work for us. Ott lamps continue to receive very high praise from multiple members in my knittng/needlework group so I'm going to look for another style that's less clunky.

I bought this lamp because my eyes hurt after reading, even with recently updated glasses. I was a little nervous that it would not be bright enough because it is "only" 18 w. However, the light itself is wonderful -- bright and very white. Unlike some similar lights it comes on instantly and I have not seen any flicker. The light gives very nice contrast and makes reading much easier. I hope will relieve eyestrain compared to normal lights.

I cannot rate the lamp as a "5" because the lamp is, frankly, a little ugly. Also the height of the lamp at its lowest setting is a little tall for my sofa. However, appearance was less important to me than function, and the lamp is less expensive than the other floor lamp by Ott-lite.
