This is an average DVD player, don't expect too much.

When I purchased this DVD player, I was looking for a DVD player that was cheap, and could play DVD's or VCD's. Basically, I needed a no frills DVD player for my bedroom and that is exactly what I got. We have a nicer Pioneer DVD player in our living room that is attached to our large television, which is much better than this Daewoo model.
An added unexpected bonus is that my wife uses the Daewoo in our bedroom to play music CD's while she reads.
Otherwise, there are a few things that leave me disappointed about this Daewoo DVD player. I don't think that it handles high speed action very well. It seems to have a little trouble playing the fight scenes in Episode 1, and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon without pixelizing a little. I forget which movie it was, but one we watched locked the DVD player up completely; we had to stop it and FF through that spot. I think that the remote is also laid out funny. The up/down, left/right buttons are at the very bottom left corner, instead of in the center of the remote, as many DVD remotes are set up. The DVD player is also a little big; it reminds me a little of a 1980's era VCR. Finally, I can't figure out how to turn the on-screen display off by default, even after looking through the users manual.
Each of these complaints about the DVD player and remote gives me a lukewarm feeling about it. Fortunately, all I wanted was a simple DVD player that could do the basic job, so I am satisfied with it.

Daewoo - you get what you pay for

Every DVD we tried freezes for a few seconds and then "catches up" but jumping ahead. This happens every few minutes throughout the movies. Definitely do not buy this item no matter how tempted you are by the price -- pay a little more, it will be well worth it!

First of all, I didn't buy off of Amazon but got the same price from Sams Club-and it's black. Mine works great. I especially like the MP3 playback, it handles folders like a Windows environment would. Just pick a folder and it will play the songs. DVDs and CDs as well as my CD-Rs play with no problem. Reading the other reviews make me think that it pretty much a Daewoo quality control issue.

looks like its not just me...

Well i hooked it all up and it seemed to work somewhat perfectly for the first 6 movies or so...now...it will not play any of my dvd's. they freeze at every chapter, and the only way to resume the movie is to stop and play again. there's no luck in watching a dvd at a certain point, because it does nothing but freeze when i try to skip a chapter...ive tried totally disconnecting it and reconnecting...ive about had it with this thing. it plays CD's fine, but...i wasn't looking for a new CD player...what can i say. you get what you pay for...and thats what i get for being cheap.

Stutters on every disc

So far I have tried to play Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, Jacob's Ladder, and The Big Lebowski, and periodically the picture freezes or slows down and the audio cuts out for a second.
I should have known better: you get what you pay for.It is a nice unit except for the fact that it doesn't work. :-\
Nice remote, nice outputs (coax, optical, s-vhs).
