Don't buy Panasonic 2.4 Ghz phones

(1 out of 5) by S. Manning on Sep 10, 2001 (Austin, TX United States)
There is some type of flaw in the design of some of these models that prevent the hand set from being charged after a sometimes short period of time. I bought a 2.4 Ghz unit in June and about a week ago the hand set didn't recharge. I bought a new $20. battery and it still didn't recharge. So I took the unit back to Circuit City and tried to exchange it. The return guy told me that I had to call Panasonic for an authorization number. Called, talked to Dawn and she said that it was Panasonic's policy to only repair, never exchange defective merchandise. After a period of time I can understand that policy but three months. A 200 dollar phone should work better than that. The guy at Circuit City was so annoyed at this that he gave me an extended warranty on the phone and told me to go pick out another.
The guy at Circuit City felt that there was some type of fundamental problem with these phones recharging the hand set.

Panasonic KX-TG2563W 2.4GHz Cordless Phone

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Mar 9, 2002
I love this phone. It saves me so much time. I use the Plantronics (over the head type) headset with it. Then I carry the phone in a jacket pocket, or clip it on my belt, and I can do my housework (yuck) while on those long phone calls with my mom (fun). Combining "yuck" and "fun" makes the housework so much more palatable. On the practical side this multitasking makes better use of my time.

I tried another cordless phone first, but it didn't work very well. It had a constant low level of static and there was always too much interference from the refrigerator; every time the fridge came on the static was unbelievable. (That phone was returned.) Then I checked E-pinions and found out that most people loved their Panasonic phones, so I bought one. Now, the only time I have any interference is when too close to a computer in use or a microwave in use. The fridge, washer, dryer, television, etc. all no problem. A major plus when you like to do housework while on the phone.

Now my mom wants one and I am so, so happy! I have struggled for years (since 1998) to hear her over the interference on her old cordless phone - she nicknamed it "the funny phone" it works so poorly. While I am here to order her one, I thought I should write a review because the only other reviewer said he hated this phone. I love mine.

Besides the technical stuff, the white color is quite attractive in the kitchen. This is another plus that finally sold my mom on buying a decent phone. She will only buy white electronic devices. It sounds funny, and we joke about it, but I must admit that her home because of her color choice.

Lousiest piece of electronic equipment I've ever owned

(1 out of 5) by Craig W. Spitzberg on Aug 6, 2002 (Dallas, TX United States)
I liked the design of this phone. It had all the features I wanted. My only complaint before buying it was that it would not stand up on a table and had to be laid in a prone position. After purchasing the phone I found much more to complain about! Little good it did. Panasonic has the worst customer service of any company I've ever dealt with.

Now about this phone. When you try to make a call, check messages or Caller ID log, most of the time the display says "Searching" followed by "Out of range". This can be anywhere in the house including no more than 2 feet from the base! When you can get it to turn on and you're speaking with someone, the interference is so bad it could have been used as laboratory sound effects in the original Frankenstein movie! Oscillating buzzing, humming and clicking. I've thought perhaps I have some sort of emissive signal nearby but 2 other 900 mhz phones I have work fine (see Sony below).

When the phone rings the display (Caller ID) just says: "Incoming call". Almost without exception my voice messaging answers the call (on the 4th ring) before the phone has figured out who is calling!

All I've gotten from Panasonic is, "Unplug the phone for 5 minutes and plug it in again so it will re-sync." That has not worked and Panasonic has been non responsive. I've decided to not even bother sending the phone in for repair. I'll just never buy anything from Panasonic again.

I've switched back to my perfectly clear Sony 900 mhz. It doesn't have NiMh batteries, the display isn't lighted, and there's no indicator for voice message, but it works every time, Caller ID displays on (or even before) the first ring, and no special effects!

Battery can be Changed to NiMH for better Performance

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Oct 22, 2003
I have owned this phone for over a year, and after replacing the original NiCd Panasonic battery with a GE 1300 mAh NiMH battery (TL965600187), the battery performance has been exceptional. The features of this phone are excellent and the performance has been great. However, recently we have been unable to use it at all due to large amounts of 2.4GHz interference in our home. Beware of too many wireless devices in your area. The 2.4GHz spectrum is the wild west. Other than that, this phone is great!!

Panasonic 2563W

(1 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Feb 9, 2002
Not very happy with the clarity of this phone. Also, very uncomfortable the way it rests on my ear and it also feels like I am talking into an echo. Taking it back to Staples tomorrow. Overpriced. Unsure of what else to buy. Just glad to dispose of it.
