Bel 936 Express

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Mar 18, 2002
VEry simple. If your going to buy a radar detector make sure you buy a Bel. However, if your just a kid or someone who is going to buy a radar detector just for a toy it's not worth it. If you plan just to be using it in the city, your going to find it to be more annoying than helpful.

However, if you do plan on traveling alot a radar detector from bel is an excellent choice.

Pleased so far but beware....

(3 out of 5) by Walter B. on Dec 25, 2001 (Fort Lauderdale , Florida)
This is my first radar detector so I am uncertain of how sensitive other comparable radar detectors are. So far, I am happy about my purchase. I like the clean design and the voice alerts. However, I have a huge problem and so does every prospective BEL purchaser. I recently exhanged my BEL 936 with a different BEL 936 because the packaging of the product caused it to have scratches on the face of the unit. Unfortunately, BEL did not have the foresight to place a transparent strip over the display area to protect it from scratches. Almost every single unit in the store had scratches from the packaging. Check yours before you purchase it. This seems like a huge gaffe on the part of BEL Electronics. Aside from this, The BEL works pretty well.

Mine died, too, but...

I had the same experience with my 906 as did Istephany. I called Beltronics and talked to Wilma who cooperative and pleasant. I had a new unit in about a week - at no cost - and it seems to be working alright after running in the heat on my dashboard. I guess and hope that they found and fixed a part problem. If it dies again, I'll write again.

Great for the Hiway

(5 out of 5) by Henry R. Thompson on Jan 9, 2002 (San Manuel, Arizona United States)
In the city, or other areas of high RFI, this little guy might drive you crazy. But over all it is well above par with any on the Market today. I drive an average of 600 miles a day all over Arizona and New Mexico. On the open road this thing preforms. Most of the country I run in is mountainous and rolling desert, it omits the false readings my old Whistler found, but it did pick up a couple of new ones. Most of the DPS cars in our area run the KA band, a few areas use K. On open ground (rolling Desert) it has picked up units a good two minutes before I can see them. It can't see around the rocks, but does good with the reflections generated by UHF signals. In the mountains and canyons of SE Arizona I get a good 20-30 seconds warning. I use velcro to mount it to the dash in both my car and in the semi I drive. Yes they are illegal in trucks, but the SWS systems in the newer units far out weighs the occasional fine, which averages around $... (for a truck)
For the money, if you run the open road and want a blanket of relative secuity for a barginn price, this unit is well worth the investment.

Excellent Radar

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Sep 18, 2001
I just got my Bel 916 radar and so far i found it to be excellent. I guess the biggest con is it picks up alot of falses but if the sounds become annoying to you, you can always turn the volume down. Otherwise, I found this to be an excellent radar, very inexpensive, does it's job and is definitly a keeper. I would recommend this radar to anyone of my friends. Beltronics is also the best company that puts out radars.
