Great Value Solid Performance

(5 out of 5) by sheila finkelstein on Dec 3, 2001 (Garden State Parkway, NJ)
The CD player has a 96/24 DAC the same as mid range stand alone players. Video decoding is only 10 bit. The CD audio quality is as good as a stand alone deck of the same price. MP3 decoding sounds surprisingly good, but has a tendency to skip alot. The DVD picture quality is very good, but I recommend you use the individual preferences on the main menu to fine tune this deck to your TV. This deck doesnt have its own surround sound decoders so you will need to use the ones in your home theater receiver. The deck is lightweight and insubstantial feeling. All in all a wonderful value at this price.

a good choice

We bought this one a month ago & had no problems. We chose it based on the ability to play MP3's (seven hours of music on one disc burned from the Powerbook) and V-CD's (home movies burned from the computer on ultra cheap CD's!)
A good investment.

Great product

I purchased this player about 3 weeks ago and I just can't get enough of it. It's extremely basic and the perfect player for a beginner. Highly recommended A++++

An expensive lemon

(1 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Mar 2, 2003
After almost a year of minimal use, the system would stop recognizing dvd movies in the middle. After checking with Philips about a replacement throught the warranty, I was going to have to pay almost $...for a refurbished one (not a new one) from the very company that produced this piece of junk.
I will never buy an item from Philips ever again.

So far.... so Good

So far, this player has been great. Audio quality with CDs seems terrific. DVD picture quality is good (at least with the S-video connect). I noticed the player had a slight skip in one of the movies we played, but has otherwise worked fine.

The MP3 feature is nice, especially for a unit [of this price]. The title of the MP3s are listed on the TV and the sound is great. However, playback of the MP3s seems to be limited in that the machine seems unable to randomly play the tracks.

The remote control is rather unimpressive and small, but otherwise, we've been very pleased with the product. So far... so good.
