A Huge Disappointment
I used to have what i believe was the older version of this model (the top was completely opaque and the buttons were small circles). I was very very pleased with that one, until i lost it. This one, on the other hand, couldn't even compare. The resume resumes from where ever the player wants, not necessarily where you left off. Sometimes, it simply refuses to read a track, but spends minutes trying. The unit skips for no apparent reason, even when i'm not moving it. The final kicker was when i dropped it (no more than 2 feet), the top came off, and even though i was able to snap it back in with no apparent physical damage, it no longer works at all...

Wonderful 22 hours
The sound on this baby is great and it runs for 22 hours compared to my old one which would only run 6 hours. Great for cross-country trips. The car kit is excellent. GREAT DEAL!!!

Good value for your money
I've bought this discman primarily for it's car kit - it was a lot cheaper solution for listening CDs in the car, than "real" car CD player. It works perfectly, even on bumpy roads with ESP turned on.
I like to make my own CDs with favourite songs, so I record them all on 1-6x Teac CD-R. Philips has no problems whatsoever with those CDs. Also, I dropped it few times (2-3ft), and though you can clearly see scratches (on the transparent plastic cover), it works fine. Though, it looks pretty fragile, so be careful.
The only problem I've encountered is postion of Next and Previous (or F Fwd and F Bwd) buttons, which are "linked" and very near to Play and Stop buttons. So, instead of skipping the track, you could return it to the beginning, and when you drive, it's not really healthy to look at the CD.
Anyway, price is fine for what you get, and if I had to buy again - I would buy this player.

Best until Broken
This is a totally awesome cd player.... it never skips! I ran with it and it was fine. I love the "resume" feature, and the sound was great. Yet there are a few key problems with this unit. If you drop it from like 3 feet off the ground onto CARPET it breaks! I had this from christmas until march, when i dropped it from my (top) locker at school onto the carpeted floor. When i got into the car that night, it made crazy clicking sounds and said "nf disc," whatever that may mean. All i know is its broken now and I'm quite upset! This is great if its kept in a safe spot, but don't drop it, whatever you do!

Totally skip-proof in the car.
I purchased this unit for my company car since I'm not allowed to install an in-dash unit. My old cd player skipped endlessly; older technology. Well this thing never skips; ever. I keep it on the passenger seat. Not only does it never skip; once I had to slam on the brakes and the whole unit flew (literally) onto the floor. It never skipped a beat. It just kept on playing. Also, the unit makes electronic "beaps" when you press a button, which is handy in the car when you don't want to take your eyes off the road but appreciate the confirmation. Also, the unit has a "resume" feature which picks up the cd where you left off; even when power to the unit ceases (like when you turn off the engine). In other words, it saves your place. This is especially handy for people who listen to recorded books. Also, the car kit works great.
