Great value, Great Performance

(5 out of 5) by J. Rueffer on Sep 23, 2001 (Naperville, IL United States)
I bought this cd player because I wanted to listen to burned CD's while I exercised. I have had absolutely no problems with it. I set the player on the little shelf on the EFX Machine and it has never once skipped. I walk around campus with it all the time and it has never once skipped. The battery life is every bit of 20 hours, even with the ESP and Bass turned all the way up. As far as the headphones go, I can't comment on them because I couldn't get them out of the plastic shell of a package this thing comes in, besides I prefer the Sony "in the ear" model when I'm working out anyways. The only little complaint I can think of is that when the player is set to random, it takes a little longer then usual (maybe 5 seconds) to get to the next random song. Other then that, I wholeheartedly endorse this product. **UPDATE** The complaint I made above was solely the fault of a badly burned CD-R. I apoligize to Philips and anyone I may have misled.

GOOD CD PLAYER

(4 out of 5) by John on Nov 20, 2001 (Cleveland, OH)
This CD player is pretty good. It has nice sound quality, the headphones are good, and dispite what other reviewers are saying mine doesn't skip at all (even on some of my scratched CD's) and it works fine after 6 months of having it. It has the usual features that I have come to expect from portable CD players such as bass boost, random and programmable track orders, etc.. Generally, this is a great CD player for anyone. The only reason I gave this 4 stars is because someone recently stole my CD player and my new one is really super thin and I think that is cooler than this regular thickness one.

Excellent no-frill product

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Dec 30, 2001
Very easy to use and a robust, no-frill product. The shipped headphone is also surprisingly good (better than an AIWA headphone accompanying an AIWA CD player I have received as a gift), but to get the best sound I used a SONY studio monitor headphone purchased separately. However it does not ship with a power supply, and an external power supply bought separately costs nearly half as much as the product!

Jogproff.... I dont think so.

(2 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Dec 12, 2001
I bought this solely because of the it claimed to be "Jogproff", well no, this seems to be misleading, I dont know what kind of testing they did to come up with this theory, but even with a brand new CD playing in it, at most you'll get about 20-40 seconds of continuous music before it starts skiping. I dont know how companies manage to legaly provide consumers with false information about thier products, but hey, I might have missed the small print somewhere.... Im in the process of returning it.

Old Reliable

(5 out of 5) by T. Caporale on Oct 29, 2006 (Somewhere over the rainbow...)
Guys, forget all of the new-fangled iPod or Sony Walkman devices out. Just buy this. Why? It's perfect. Provides a rich sound (coupled with my Philips SBC-HS386 headphones) and it NEVER SKIPS. The reviewer below me might have got a defect, or has the ESP (Electronic Skip Protection) off. I tell, you, I nicknamed mine Old Reliable. No problem with it, it looks cool, allowing you to see the CD as it spins. I've been through many, and I mean many, CDs with this thing. I love you Old Reliable.

Up Side: CD player sent down from Jesus himself to allow us to listen to music in its purest form.

Down Side: Sheer greatness of this CD player may cause heads to explode upon being touched. You've been forewarned.
